LBJ Campfire, Monday Evening

Chuck didn't know who started the campfire outside his cabin but he was glad that someone did. He was capable of working a lighter but that whole Boy Scout-y wood and newspaper in the optimal fire starting position thing was lost on him. So when people did the hard stuff for him he was appreciative. Silently appreciative. He wasn't about to be thanking people out loud.

Now he was sitting back against a log with a joint in his hand and was debating going back inside the cabin to grab marshmallows. Maybe after the munchies set in.

"I've honed it into an art," he joked, smiling at her. "As long as people can get past my name, then it's smooth sailing."

"Yes, 'Hanny' could be a turn off," Rose agreed sweetly. "But it's good you've learned how to work with it."

"So could Rosie," he countered just as sweetly. "Very cutesy name there."

She narrowed her eyes. "See, but I could pull Rosie off."

"I see no proof of that," he said, paraphrasing her words from earlier.

And now Rose leaned back, mimicking his posture with her hands behind her head. "Why should I show it to you?"

"Because," he said, letting his grin widen some, "until you do, I don't think you can."

"You'll have to eat those words," Rose said arrogantly.

"Words are just words," he pointed out, waving a hand in the air. "Actions are better. I don't think I'll be eating anything."

"Than what actions would you accept?" she asked, wrinkling her nose at him.

"You're just making me do all the work," he teased. "Wouldn't telling you make it easier for you to prove it?"

"Exactly," Rose agreed complacently. "Just the way I like it."

"I am a lazy man," he replied, shaking his head. "You're just going to have to prove it on your own. Easy isn't always the best."

She pretended to yawn, patting her mouth. "Mmm, platitudes. I expected more from you, Hanny."

"That's not my name, Rosie," he countered. "I don't let anyone call me that."

"What are you going to do about it?" she asked, smirking. "I think it has a nice ring to it."

"It's not my name," he repeated. "I could tape your mouth shut." Not that that was an actual viable option. "It's not my name so I wouldn't keep using it."

"You could try to tape my mouth shut," Rose said, laughing. "And it's just as much your name as Rosie is mine. So you're stuck. Hanny."

"I could try." Maybe he could. He'd done worse. "It's not very nice of you to use that name. At least yours is an actual name."

"Yours is a nickname," Rose pointed out airily. "It doesn't have to be actual." She grinned at him. "Besides. I like it."

"But why should you get the privilege of using it?" he asked. "We just met."

"You like me," she decided. "You won't mind."

"You're arrogant," he observed. "You could be wrong."

She looked down then back up at him from under her lashes. "Am I?"

"I don't know yet." He couldn't give her entirely what she wanted that easily. "I guess we'll see."
