LBJ Campfire, Monday Evening

Chuck didn't know who started the campfire outside his cabin but he was glad that someone did. He was capable of working a lighter but that whole Boy Scout-y wood and newspaper in the optimal fire starting position thing was lost on him. So when people did the hard stuff for him he was appreciative. Silently appreciative. He wasn't about to be thanking people out loud.

Now he was sitting back against a log with a joint in his hand and was debating going back inside the cabin to grab marshmallows. Maybe after the munchies set in.

Valentine grinned a little. "I have two brothers," she said. "Trying to gross me out over breakfast could be an artform."

"And I'm an only child, more or less," Jack said. "I don't think you could disgust my guardian. I never saw that as a disadvantage before."

"Definitely not a disadvantage," Valentine nodded. "I pride my own ability to avoid disgust."

"Do things that go bump in the night frequently jump out at you, or is this about your brothers again?"

Valentine grinned a little wryly.

Everything's about my brothers.

"Mostly column B," she said. "But only because I can't say things that go bump in the night do jump at me all that much."

"You need to watch," Jack said, still lightly. "That might change here."

Though," he added, "I can't say my life is rich in things jumping out at me, either."

The vampires he had known were never the sort.

Valentine couldn't help quirking an eyebrow. Because when someone said something might change, they were usually referring to the fact that it was going to.

And she had a feeling they weren't talking about pretzels here.

"I hear that generally changes if you spend too much time here, anyway."

"That does seem to be the message they're spreading, at least," Jack said, and aimed a rather sudden smile at her. "I suppose we'll know when it gets here."
