Second Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Due to Skrull invasions and cabin living, Tony was now three weeks behind on the best vampire detective show on syndicated TV, Darkest Night. And this Wednesday was the season finale.

So Tony picked up a box of goodies from J, GOB and settled in the second floor common room with pastries, popcorn and a bomb bottle of cola to catch up on the episodes he'd missed. Pastries for eating, popcorn for throwing at the screen. Given that the first episode he was watching featured a zombie invasion, he was going to need a lot of popcorn.

"Come on, are you serious? No zombie's that tough!"

Jack had to make a face at that. "It could be a delicacy and give me the power of flight; I still wouldn't eat it."

"The power of flight isn't nearly all it's cracked up to be, anyway," Valentine said. "Pick a different power. There's got to be something you could gain that'd be worth eating rotting flesh."

Jack almost choked on his donut, but he was willing to play. "No. Perhaps immortality. But now I'm curious how you know about flight, Valentine."

"Not...personal flight," Valentine said. "Like superheroes or anything like that, but we've got interspace travel where I'm from. Flying is a little passe, especially if anyone's experienced null-g. I haven't, but my brother has in his training."

"We took a zeppelin to the colonies," Jack told her. "Quite new, very stylish. That was my only experience of flight before class here. I don't even know what null-g is."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Null-g," Valentine said. "The 'g' is for gravity, so null-gravity. Floating around in space. So, I guess it's floating more than flying."

"But floating. For real," Jack said. "I can't even imagine that; it sounds like something in a cheap novel."

"Oh, thanks," Valentine laughed a little, making it clear that she was no where near offended. "How'd you feel if I said your zeppelin was like something in a cheap novel, too?"

Jack shrugged a little. "I'd ask what you meant?" he offered. "Did they go out of fashion, like telegraphs?"

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"You could say that," Valentine said with a nod. "Especially after that one blew up. Made way for airplanes, which made way for spaceships."

"... one blew up?"

Oh, Jack. Don't ask the obvious question.

"Did a lot of people die?"

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I...'m not sure, actually," Valentine admitted. "It happened a while ago in this time, which means the details are even further back for me in my time."
