Second Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Due to Skrull invasions and cabin living, Tony was now three weeks behind on the best vampire detective show on syndicated TV, Darkest Night. And this Wednesday was the season finale.

So Tony picked up a box of goodies from J, GOB and settled in the second floor common room with pastries, popcorn and a bomb bottle of cola to catch up on the episodes he'd missed. Pastries for eating, popcorn for throwing at the screen. Given that the first episode he was watching featured a zombie invasion, he was going to need a lot of popcorn.

"Come on, are you serious? No zombie's that tough!"

Karla nodded. "That's it exactly. I cri--I was upset for awhile after I got my first Widow's Weeds. My mother was also a Black Widow and I knew she'd've wanted to see them. And even now, knowing that she won't be waiting for me after I make the Offering to the Darkness...it hurts."

Dinah nodded, then quietly said, "Yeah. Like that." She looked a little wistful. "Even if there was somewhere I could know she was okay..." Would it hurt worse, or less? And how about Karla, her parents gone-but-not, and left to someone who was abusive and controlling? She shook her head. "I guess it doesn't make a difference. Not really."

Karla shook her head. "Not really. Gone is gone. I'm glad you have your sisters, though." Karla personally thought the "sorrow shared is sorrow halved" idea was bullshit, but it had helped to have Morton to talk to. "At least, when you need to talk, there are people around who understand. And they also understand when you don't want to talk."

"Yeah. Helena lost her mom about the same way I did, the same age as I was." Dinah studied Karla. "Anyway. Maybe we've accomplished so much because death is such and end for us, so soon. Live fast. Die young. Leave a good-lookin' corpse," she said, trying to smile.

Karla tried to smile back. "Perhaps you are right. Certainly, the good-looking corpse bit is quite important," she said, doing her best imitation of Mistress Ferret-Face, right down to the hair toss.

Dinah gave a weak giggle, then put her hands on her hips in a Supergirl pose. "We're too pretty to die, though."

"Of course we are!" Karla said, getting into the joke a little. "You said a 'good-looking' corpse, not an 'incredibly gorgeous' one."
