The Second Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening
Karla was nervous. Well, that wasn't much of a surprise. Karla had been nervous all day. But this was a new and different kind of nervous. Now, she was about to host a party, which she had never done, in a world that was still foreign to her, and for many girls she did not know very well. It was enough to unsettle even the strongest nerves.
Still, she though she was ready. Dinah had promised to provide her laptop for movies. Karla and Gabrielle had gone to Turtle's and purchased lots ofmoddable snacks, sodas, and lots of candy and chocolates. She'd bought make-up, since Dinah had mentioned it's importance in such matters, plenty of blankets and pillows to share, and several other sundries because she wasn't entirely certain what else would be needed, and wished to be prepared. Also, lots of booze, from her private Kaeleeran stash.
Most importantly, there was a small, neatly lettered sign on the door that said 'No Males Please.'
Well, she was as ready as she was ever going to be. "Kiss kiss," she muttered.
[Give me a second for the OCD, please. OCD is ready to party! Sorry for the repost! Wrong LJ.]

Her eyes, however, held a darker story. *Remember that thing I wanted to talk about?* she sent on a distaff psychic thread.

Which was cover, of course, for trying to steer her friend away from the crowd, and the small flare of power as she made sure their conversation stayed locked to them. < Is everything alright? > she asked, letting concern color her mental touch. < You didn't sound too hot on the phone. >
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
*It's nothing I haven't been dealing with for years...but under a whole new set of circumstances,* Karla began. She had to psyche herself up to this explanation; she was giving Emma an incredibly potent weapon, and, truth be told, she didn't know Emma all that well. But Emma reminded Karla of a proper Kaeleeran witch, which made her that much more inclined to trust her. *Do you know what it feels like to be surrounded by a hundred potential enemies and know yourself to be almost completely helpless?*

Which is why secondary mutations are quite helpful*Then you'll understand why I'm...so jumpy. The first three days of a witch's moon time is one of extreme vulnerability. I can't do much more than basic Craft, and even that hurts. Even witches who are perfectly safe and happy in the bosoms of their families are on edge at this time, because no matter how strong they are normally, they're weak and defenseless right now. I...came from a very dangerous situation at home, to Fandom which is still a scary and foreign place. I have very few people I can trust and lots of potential enemies. I won't be able to fend off any male who wants to break me. Which means that all males are a threat.*
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
Someday, Emma will grow up to be very very scary. Sadly, today she is wee!A lot of what Karla was saying was going over Emma's head, but the basics were there, and she felt the familiar anger stirring.
She wasn't living on the streets anymore; Emma had gotten used to being able to sleep without keeping something sharp under her pillow. The idea that any of the girls here would have to worry about that sort of thing on a regular basis was sickening.
< You have nails and teeth and feet, > she pointed out. < You aren't completely defenseless. And any asshole that wants to try anything will have to go through everyone here to get to you. >
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
After a moment they rose again. *Sorry. Sometimes my control goes to Hell, too. But anyway, that's why I'm throwing the party. I don't think I could have handled my first night here, by myself. Not like this.*
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
< Karla, breathe, > she instructed. < Anyone tries to force you like that, and you yell, okay? I will make them think they're frogs for the rest of their natural lives. >
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
*That was what lead to me being sent here. There were three of them, and I couldn't hold them all off and that was when I was at full strength. If my cousin hadn't arrived when he did...* She shuddered. *Dinah swears that such things do not happen here, but human nature is human nature. And, even were it not, I'd need more than three weeks and one admittedly-optimistic girl's opinion before I'd change my mind. So I hope you won't mind if three days a month, you find me unexpectedly clingy and hovering. Safety in numbers is the only defense I have right now.*
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
There was a moment of consideration, then Emma carefully laid out a memory for Karla. She didn't like sharing, or giving someone potential blackmail, but she highly doubted that Karla was lying about any of this.
Emma, in a party dress and alone, surrounded by a group of jeering men demanding kisses. Her fist smashing into the ringleader's face, and then running. Discovering she was trapped, and turning around to find a fist flying at her face. Then nothing.
And waking up to find them all dead.
< This world is too much like mine for it not to happen here, too, > she sent, tucking the memory away gently. < Tweet will find that out the hard way sooner or later. >
Re: Eat! Drink! Be Merry
*...Tweety?*

She filled up Emma's wine glass again, followed by her own. She still felt...twitchy, which meant that alcohol was definitely needed.
