The Second Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

Karla was nervous. Well, that wasn't much of a surprise. Karla had been nervous all day. But this was a new and different kind of nervous. Now, she was about to host a party, which she had never done, in a world that was still foreign to her, and for many girls she did not know very well. It was enough to unsettle even the strongest nerves.

Still, she though she was ready. Dinah had promised to provide her laptop for movies. Karla and Gabrielle had gone to Turtle's and purchased lots of moddable snacks, sodas, and lots of candy and chocolates. She'd bought make-up, since Dinah had mentioned it's importance in such matters, plenty of blankets and pillows to share, and several other sundries because she wasn't entirely certain what else would be needed, and wished to be prepared. Also, lots of booze, from her private Kaeleeran stash.

Most importantly, there was a small, neatly lettered sign on the door that said 'No Males Please.'

Well, she was as ready as she was ever going to be. "Kiss kiss," she muttered.

[Give me a second for the OCD, please. OCD is ready to party! Sorry for the repost! Wrong LJ.]

"Good, I think? It's hard to get a read on how far I've come, sometimes. Arthur's not much for the kind of feedback. But the drills are getting easier, and I've gotten stronger." Dinah grinned and shrugged. "Do you still want that spar, sometime? I mean, even going in knowing you're better, I'd like to try."

"I would like that," Elspeth said. "I should work on fighting with my left hand, anyway, so perhaps that would even things a bit."

"Ooo, oo, yes! Like in that documentary, The Princess Bride!" Dinah said, bouncing on her chair. "Where the swordsman fights people with his left hand 'cause it's too fast to defeat them with his right!"

"Is that a historical ballad?" Elspeth asked, not recognizing the word "documentary".

"Umm, it's a movie? Based on something that's according to Fandom meta tradition supposed to be historical?" Dinah tilted her head. "Have you see the TV or a movie yet?"

Elspeth shook her head. "I've heard of it, though. Actors with pictures?"

"Yeah, like that." Dinah pointed to the TV set. "It's flat, on the screen there, and most of them last as long as a play. What kind of plays do you like? We could track down something similar."

"Oh, I enjoy the historical plays," Elspeth said. "Mostly battles with just a bit of romance."

"We definitely have to watch The Princess Bride then. There's at least three swordfights in it and cliff-climbing and screaming eels." Dinah grinned, then added, "You might want to see the play we're putting on this semester too, at the Boards. It's sorta historical, or at least based on a legend of a king ages ago."

"Are you a Bardic trainee?" Elspeth asked.

"Mmmm, no. Although Gabrielle is, sort of. Why?" Dinah asked, curious.

"Back home it's the Bard and their trainees who put on plays in the Palace," Elspeth explained.

"Ohhh. No, we're not professionals, we just like having fun with it. Well, Tony and Geoffrey, they're pros at putting them on, organizing them, but the actors are mostly just doing it for fun." Dinah grinned. "We're supposed to hear if we got cast pretty soon for this summer's play. I'm hoping I did, even if it's a small part."
