Karla was nervous. Well, that wasn't much of a surprise. Karla had been nervous all day. But this was a new and different kind of nervous. Now, she was about to host a party, which she had never done, in a world that was still foreign to her, and for many girls she did not know very well. It was enough to unsettle even the strongest nerves.

Still, she though she was ready. Dinah had promised to provide her laptop for movies. Karla and Gabrielle had gone to Turtle's and purchased lots of ~~moddable~~ snacks, sodas, and lots of candy and chocolates. She'd bought make-up, since Dinah had mentioned it's importance in such matters, plenty of blankets and pillows to share, and several other sundries because she wasn't entirely certain what else would be needed, and wished to be prepared. Also, lots of booze, from her private Kaeleeran stash.

Most importantly, there was a small, neatly lettered sign on the door that said 'No Males Please.'

Well, she was as ready as she was ever going to be. "Kiss kiss," she muttered.

"Are boys different where you come from?" asked Harper. "I'm from New York myself, and the boys there are pretty much just like the ones here."

"Yes...and no." Karla said slowly, trying to put difficult concepts into words. "Many of the males here seem very young, but their basic natures are the same. But your males don't have castes, which I think makes a big difference. Your males and regular Warlords are pretty much alike, but there are some major differences between your males and my Warlord Princes. Even so, there are some males here who would fit in quite well in Kaeleer."

Harper listened carefully. "Yeah, I'm going to say that your boys are different. I'm from a totally normal, totally boring world," she said.

Except that Harper's friends back home were wizards-in-training who had so far managed to hide their secret from her.

"If it makes you feel better, I think of my home as totally normal. Fandom, however, is very bizarre." Karla never made the mistake of thinking Glacia was boring, however. For all that they were 'normal,' the Blood were still dangerous and deadly.

"Oh, it took me forever to get used to this place. Most people get their brains broken during the first week at Fandom. It took me a month, and that's not counting the weekend I spent here visiting my friend," chuckled Harper.

"I think that's the one consolation this island offers. Whether your from this world and this year, or a displaced Kaeleeran witch, you're always confused by Fandom," Karla smiled.

"At least there are so many nice people to help you get settled," said Harper, smiling in return. "I have an awesome big sibling, and I was even luckier that my best friend already goes to school here."

"Who? And who?" Karla asked, glancing around the party.

"My Elder Sibling is Sam Winchester, and he is quite kind. Sadly, my best friend is still at home, in Kaeleer." And in a coma, but that didn't really need to be said.

"I know Sam, sort of. He's in a couple of my workshops," said Harper. "My big sibling is Hurley, and my best friend is Alex Russo. We've known each other since kindergarten and I followed her to Fandom."

"I'm afraid I haven't met either of them. But I'm glad that you have such good friends here. How long have you been at Fandom for?"

"Just since January," said Harper. "So far, I've seen harpies, zombies, and this really weird weekend where everyone turned into little kids."

"Harpies?" Karla asked, confused. "You have Harpies here? I didn't think they ever left Hell."

Karla still had no idea the difference between Kaeleer's Harpies and the kind that attacked Fandom.

"They only showed up that one time, and they were awful!" said Harper. "They said the most terrible things when I was running from them on the way to a sewing circle meeting."

"Why would they attack you?" Karla asked with something akin to disbelief. "You're not male."

"They were attacking people all over town, male as well as female," said Harper.

"Well that doesn't sound right. Why would they attack females? They have nothing against them. It's just...weird."

"I have no idea. I don't know a whole lot about magic," said Harper with s shrug. "But yeah, they were attacking everyone. There's a girl who works at Groovy Tunes that went up on the roof to try and fight them off, and others joined her."
