"Today," Arthur called, once enough had gathered on the field, "We have two matters to discuss with you before we continue to the work of the day. First of all, all of you who have 'phone numbers', please exchange them with us and your fellow reserve members. This will help communication come the next attack. Also, you may have noticed the magic and support reserves that are currently being set up on the island; if you have any skills to lend there as well, I'd like you to show up. We can use everyone we've got." That over with, he rolled his shoulders, and nodded at the ~~modded, oh so modded~~ puppy up front. And then at Leto. "Second of all..."

Leto glanced at him, and then turned to the group. "We have decided to have Zack join us as leader for the reserve. His military experience will certainly be useful, and with the three of us to organise you will get a quicker response to any questions you might have." Also, Zack was cheerful. That could be an advantage, at least during planning meetings with Arthur.

As long as Zack didn't try hugging him in front of Leto, all should be fine. Arthur scraped his throat. "Now that that's over and done with, today is about learning what you're dealing with. I want you all to pick a partner who uses a weapon you have no proficiency in. Today, and over the course of the week, the two of you should learn as much as you can about the weapon, and the strategies that can be used with it."

"And as usual, if you have any questions or anything you want to discuss, don't hesitate to talk to us," Leto added.

"That will be all," Arthur finished, and nodded. "Get to it!"

Fiona pulled out her phone and wiggled it in the air so people knew that she was up for trading numbers.

Leto approached her, smiling in greeting. "So, you've got a phone, too, now?"

She nodded.

"I bought it the other day when I was out with Zack," she said, grinning just a little.

"I've been playing with it way too much, but I still haven't figured everything out."

"Neither have I," Leto replied, not that he had actually been playing. He had figured out how to use it for the purpose Reno had given it to him - that was all.

"Here is my number," he said, showing her, stepping close.

That made her breathe a little easier.

"Here's mine," she offered, speaking the numbers as she entered his in.

Leto entered the number - it was one of the important things to learn, after all. Then he looked up, shooting a smile at Fiona. "How are you?"

She breathed out and wanting to be honest, gave him a wry smile.

"Blank," she admitted.

"It's not a bad day but I'm hoping to talk with someone later and I'm not exactly looking forward to it."

Well, perhaps one part.

"Oh?" He turned serious, reaching out to just nudge her arm.

She smiled at that.

"Yeah."

She didn't really want to talk about Griff to Leto.

"What about you? How are you?"

"Oh, I'm good," he said, smiling again. "Expecting this week to be quieter, with no alligators invading."

"You say that as if we were expecting alligators," she said with a raised eyebrow.

"Which, if you were, you're getting an elbow for not telling me. I wrecked a new dress."

Yes, this was important, though she was kidding. Goodness knew that she could look along her own thread for hints of what was to come. Not that she'd considered that a good idea yet.

"Expecting doesn't mean knowing," Leto pointed out. "There is no prescience involved, merely the assumption that after a week of strange events follows a quiet one. I might be completely wrong." He grinned. "This universe offers surprises. Will you get a new dress?"

She nodded.

"I'm going out with Peyton today to shop for a while," which was more for Peyton's sake than for hers, but she wasn't going to turn down a chance to go shopping. She still had to bother her aunt Dallas about that trip to Paris she'd promised some weeks ago.

She didn't say anything about surprises or prescience. After all, she knew how unhelpful the latter could be, and she hadn't really become a fan of the former over the last couple of months. But she was still smiling.

"Would you like to meet me sometime later this week?" Leto asked, returning the smile. "Go for a walk, perhaps, or a cup of coffee?"

That made her smile a little more, the ends of her lips curling just so.

"Of course. When were you thinking of going? I promised Zack we'd do arts and crafts" and more shopping, yes, someone was getting to like that expense account quite a lot, "on Thursday, but I'm free tomorrow."

"Tomorrow, then," Leto replied, reaching out to squeeze her hand lightly. "Should I meet you outside the dorms in the afternoon?"

The touch made her features soften a little and the smile somewhat more genuine.

"Yes. That's just fine. Perfect for a walk."

As tea or coffee would just be awkward.

"Fiona?"

He was not looking to annoy her lest she annoy him, but he had a Blackberry, and numbers had to go in it, which was probably why he was holding it in front of him.

Arthur, it's a phone, not a dagger.

"Arthur," she said dryly before putting her fingers over the buttons.

"What's your number? Mine is ~~handwavey~~."

It took him a minute or so to get the number in (but that was a vast improvement on how he'd been about it earlier, not that he was telling her that) before Arthur actually answered. "~~Handwavey~~," he said, with import.

He enunciated every number very carefully.

She entered them in with the tiniest curl of a grin.

"Right. And will we be covering the usefulness of tactical texting?"

"At some other time," Arthur told her, with authority.

'Some other time' being 'when he finally figured it out', yes, but he didn't feel that was a detail she needed.

She wondered if he had any idea what she was talking about. Well, best not to mock. He was helping her with something after all.

"Should I research the possibilities in that direction and present a report, Arthur?"

She totally wasn't offering him an out there. Totally.

"Thank you, but I think we've got that covered," Arthur assured her. Or they would, once he called Reno and ordered him to give a full-on explanation of the thing. Whatever.

"As you like," she said before looking around at the others. She considered speaking up about the comments on radio, but decided that it was best dealt with privately in the salle.

She just didn't like the thought that anyone thought she was a liar.

"Better go get the other numbers."
