"Today," Arthur called, once enough had gathered on the field, "We have two matters to discuss with you before we continue to the work of the day. First of all, all of you who have 'phone numbers', please exchange them with us and your fellow reserve members. This will help communication come the next attack. Also, you may have noticed the magic and support reserves that are currently being set up on the island; if you have any skills to lend there as well, I'd like you to show up. We can use everyone we've got." That over with, he rolled his shoulders, and nodded at the modded, oh so modded puppy up front. And then at Leto. "Second of all..."

Leto glanced at him, and then turned to the group. "We have decided to have Zack join us as leader for the reserve. His military experience will certainly be useful, and with the three of us to organise you will get a quicker response to any questions you might have." Also, Zack was cheerful. That could be an advantage, at least during planning meetings with Arthur.
 

As long as Zack didn't try hugging him in front of Leto, all should be fine. Arthur scraped his throat. "Now that that's over and done with, today is about learning what you're dealing with. I want you all to pick a partner who uses a weapon you have no proficiency in. Today, and over the course of the week, the two of you should learn as much as you can about the weapon, and the strategies that can be used with it."

"And as usual, if you have any questions or anything you want to discuss, don't hesitate to talk to us," Leto added.
 

"That will be all," Arthur finished, and nodded. "Get to it!"

"Only if you think you'll want to e-mail them," Zack replied, shrugging. "It's easier to use text messaging for smaller messages, I think, anyhow. And not everyone has e-mail access on their phones anyway. It can't hurt to ask, just so that you have it handy in case of emergency, though."

A pause. Thinking. Hm.

"I think there's some way to send voicemails to a bunch of people at once, too. Something about calling and leaving the message on your own, and then sending it out from there. But I've never done that before."

"I see," Leto replied, frowning. This sounded complicated. "Of course, there is always a risk when you get too dependent on technology." Like needing both a number and an address, and things taking a lot of time to learn.

"Well, yeah." Zack certainly couldn't disagree with that one, really. "But it isn't like anyone is expecting the phone to win the battle for them, or anything. It just makes getting in touch with people a little easier. I don't mind running around to round people up if need be, but it's faster to just send them all the same message and figure things out from there."

He chewed on his lip thoughtfully as he entered his own e-mail, and then scrolled through Leto's contact list for that Reno guy's.

"So, is there any message in particular that you want to send to your buddy in Midgar?"

"Perhaps just that we are trying out the possibilities for using these messages in case of an emergency," Leto replied, watching what Zack was doing. "Perhaps we should assign some people the duty of runners though. In case technology fails."

Ooh, that was a good message, sure!

Zack plunked away at the keys, typing in what Leto had suggested... More or less.

Reno! Just trying out forwarded e-mails from the Blackberry to see how they'll work in an emergency! It will probably work better once we collect more e-mail addresses.

Hey, he typed it. Of course he was going to put his name on there.

"How's that look? And yeah, I can totally see the need for runners," Zack agreed, nodding as he held up the phone for Leto to see. "More than just me, in the future. Getting the word out that Arthur was looking for backup wasn't hard, really, but it wasn't as though I could get much farther than just the park on my own."
