Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Afternoon

Tony put the DVD for the Roman Polanski version of The Scottish Play into the player and went to make popcorn while the FBI warning came up on the screen. He plopped down on the couch with his popcorn and pop and waited for a few people to arrive before starting the movie itself.

She had to think about that one for a moment before she shook her head. Bragging, to a wolf, just didn't have the same negative connotations that it carried for humans. "If a wolf win a good fight, perhaps against some larger beast, or in hunting is nearly trampled but escape and bring back kill, then they has earned right to speak of these. So, is not making them look better, is just making so all see." It should be noted that exaggeration and lying weren't really things that wolves did much of.

"Something that they're proud of, then?" Zack gave a bit of a nod, looking again toward Blind Seer thoughtfully. "We do that too, in SOLIDER- that's the group I'm in back where I'm from. If you can handle an enemy on your own, you've earned the right to tell people that you did it. Especially if it was a challenge."

At least, he figured that maybe it was something along those lines.

Firekeeper nodded in agreement. "You is soldier?" she then asked, completely missing that it might have been an acronym.

"I am!" Acronym, job description, it was all really the same thing, so far as they were concerned back in Midgar. "Mostly, it's my job to protect people from monsters. There are quite a few of those where I'm from."

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Monsters? What kind? I not knowed of any monsters before coming here," Firekeeper admitted. The maimalodalu looked monstrous, certainly, but had turned out to just be a mostly-peaceful tribe of people.

"Most people around here haven't heard of any of them before," Zack replied, almost apologetically. "Boundfats and Land Worms, Dual Horns, Gagighandis..."

He shrugged.

"I don't think any of them are really natural, but they've been around for a long time before I ever was, so they're kind of just... normal. Not having met any before Fandom isn't really a bad thing, though."

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"I not know any of those," Firekeeper said, which is probably about what Zack expected. "Fighting is important part of being wolf. Monsters is good for such, at least."

"They are, aren't they?" And Zack was grinning and weaving from foot to foot again. "When the alligators came here last week, I couldn't stop smiling."

This really wasn't surprising, was it?

"I got to fight so many of those things! It was like being at home, except there were more people fighting alongside me than I'm really used to."

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
She's known him for all of five minutes and can already tell that no, it's really not surprising at all.

"Fighting together is very human thing," Firekeeper commented. "Wolves is usually hunting together, but fighting alone."

"So, are you a wolf, then?"

She spoke like she was one of them. Every now and then, Zack made an almost logical kind of assumption, that way. What people looked like and what they really happened to be were often two entirely different things, sometimes.

[SP is awesome! Night!]

"Am!" she gave him a pleased grin. So far, he'd been the only person here who'd figured that one out all on their own.

Okay, that was cool.

Zack grinned right back, thrilled that he'd assumed right. After all, either she identified as a wolf, or she was a really weird girl who was kind of obsessed. He was the type who preferred to go with the more flattering option when talking to people.

"Neat! I can't say I've ever spoken to a wolf before," he replied. "What brings you and Blind Seer to Fandom?"

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Which she appreciated, since it was definitely a change from the people who just believed she was kind of crazy (hi, Arthur).

"We was hunting in forests on Misheemnekuru, then, forest change, and we is here. And told we is to be going to school."

"Oooh," Zack nodded a little at that. "So, Fandom did as Fandom does, huh? I guess I was lucky that I got some warning before I wound up here."

He rocked on his heels for a moment, and then smiled apologetically at the both of them. "I can't even imagine how different things here must be for you both."

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"We lived among humans for a time, too, before this place," Firekeeper explained. "Is how I know to speak human words." Not very well, mind, but enough to be understood. "But even then, is very different from here."
puppy_fair: (Soft)

[personal profile] puppy_fair 2009-06-07 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"From what I can gather, here is pretty different from everywhere." This didn't necessarily mean that the weird was any easier to deal with, but at least it was a start, right? "At least you're not here alone, huh? It's the two of you. Does that help?"

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Firekeeper and Blind Seer both nodded. "We is pack," Firekeeper explained. "And run together through many places no wolf has beened before."
puppy_fair: (Big yap)

[personal profile] puppy_fair 2009-06-07 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Zack was now blinking at Blind Seer. He'd just nodded, hadn't he? Huh!

"He understands me, too?" Oh, he wasn't going to easily get his head around how neat this conversation was. Ever. "I think I can see the appeal of running in a pack. I mean, most missions I do as a SOLDIER, I do alone... But there's a sort of strength in numbers too."

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Firekeeper nodded. "Is why we have Reserves now, yes?" she said. "And Blind Seer learn human tongue along with me, though his mouth cannot be shaping the sounds. But, he understand."
puppy_fair: (One Date Plz)

[personal profile] puppy_fair 2009-06-07 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's exactly what the reserves are for," Zack agreed, beaming. "It kind of makes us all into one big pack, huh? All the better for keeping our home safe."

Since he knew now that both of the wolves in front of him understood what he was saying, he was carrying on the conversation between the two of them equally, as opposed to just speaking to Blysse.

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Strange pack," Firekeeper had to grin. "But one all the same."

Blind Seer definitely appreciated the inclusion; not everyone actually remembered to do that.

"Strange, but good," Zack decided, and now he was back to grinning all over again. "It's one that I'm proud to run with, at least. And I think for some people around here, it's really the only one they've got."
