3rd Floor Common Room: Saturday early evening [6-6-09]

Peyton had tried to report for detention today, but no one else had shown up. Which seemed to be on par with the way the rest of her week had been.

Solitary, um... activities in her room hadn't helped much, so she'd headed to the common room, sprawled out on the couch in something a little more exposed than she might ordinarily wear, ordered more pizza than she could ever eat when she couldn't decide on what she wanted, and was flipping through channels on the TV.

Funny how everything made her think of sex.

Hannibal caught the wave and the smile and returned both gestures. "Hey there."

"Hi," she said. "I'm Jennifer."

"Hannibal King," he said, giving her a nod. "Hey, Jennifer? New? Definitely don't remember you."

Jennifer nodded. "Very new," she said. "All pure and innocent, too."

She was... laying it on a little thick, she realized.

"So, just waiting for some corruption, hmm?" he asked, not even meaning it in a sexual way but, well, everything was coming out that way.

"If you know of a kind that won't prevent me from getting into law school," Jennifer said. "I have to be careful."

"Most of the kind I know is illegal in 36 states," he teased, grinning.

Jennifer laughed. "Is California one of them?"

"Depends on the corruption," he said, nodding. "It could be. Shaving elephants? Definitely illegal in California."

Jennifer kept laughing. "The whole breaking into the zoo part complicates things."

"It's not breaking in if you just hide in there until after it closes," he pointed out. Not that he'd done that before. Not in zoos, at least.

"Then its just trespassing," Jennifer said. "Totally different."

"Breaking the law's kind of fun," he said and smiled. "Very exhilarating."

Jennifer shook her head. "My dad would soooo not like you."

She smiled at him even more.

"Not too many dad's like me," he said and suddenly had the frightening fear of what Angela's father would do to him when they met. Yikes.

"Mine's a sheriff," she explained. "Pretty much likes the law."

"And what do you think of the law?" he asked. "Like it too?"

"I'm going to be a lawyer," Jennifer said.

Hannibal waved a hand. "But, getting into trouble is so much fun."
