Third Floor Common Room - Monday Morning

Claire was in a great mood this morning. She felt like a huge weight was lifted from her shoulders thanks to her conversation with Dinah last night. Plus there was the whole normal hormones thing.

And maybe thinking about Jon a little.

She was awake far earlier than she needed to be, so she headed down to the common room and found what she needed to bake some cookies. She put the radio on and might even be singing along a little.

"Darkness, no!" Karla said, nearly recoiling from the idea. "I just like checking to be sure. You never know what some cultures will eat."

"Okay, that's good," Claire said. "I'd say that around here, pigs, cows and chickens are going to be the most likely animals that get eaten. Oh, and turkeys and geese, though generally those tend to be for holidays and special occasions in my experience. Some people eat lamb, but I've never really cared for it."

Karla nodded approvingly. "I eat those meats. And fish as well. Though I have learned that it is the vegetables that I need to fear. Dinah fed me peppers. Wench." Not that Karla hadn't fully deserved it, in retaliation for the pickleberries.

"Oh, right, I forgot about fish," Claire said. "Seafood isn't big in Texas."

She giggled though. "Not all peppers are hot. It depends on what kind of pepper they are. And most vegetables aren't spicy."

"Humph. I think I'm still going to demand a warning next time I eat anything. I was also fed spicy ice cream the other day." To be fair though, Ronan had warned her. She had just been to busy admiring his hotness to pay much attention.

"Spicy... ice cream?" That was a first for Claire.

"Ronan puts cayenne on his ice cream," Karla explained, grumpyfacing. "He said that the ice cream would dampen most of the heat, but since these things are so new to me..." She shrugged. "Glacia isn't filled with plants that try to light you on fire."

Claire's nose wrinkled. "Ew. That sounds gross."

"I couldn't tell you. I was too busy choking to really notice a flavor. Assuming pain has a flavor. But my ice cream was perfectly good."

"Ice cream should be sweet," Claire said firmly.

"Precisely. The idea of ice cream being painful goes against everything I believe in. I think part of the reaction was every fiber of my being revolting against the idea." Karla laughed.

"I'm definitely right there with you," Claire assured her. "Ice cream is supposed to be a good thing. Not pain inducing."

"Like cookies!" Karla said, holding up her...whateverth. "These are very good, you know."

"Thanks! I'm glad you like them," Claire said.

"Is that permission to have another?" Karla asked, with a sly grin.

Claire laughed. "You can have as many as you like."

"You say that now..." Karla said, floating several over. She did offer one to Claire, since they were her cookies. "But I may keep you here till it's time for class," she warned.

"I don't have anything to do until Spy Games," Claire said.

Karla laughed. "Does that mean I can count you as a baker until then? I'll cheerfully chip in for supplies. And I'll even share!"

"Sure, why not! Especially if you're willing to help me clean up," Claire said.

"I can clean," Karla agreed. "You'd be surpised at how good you get at it when you have to clean up after setting the kitchen on fire...again. Or when it's a punishment for getting mouthy."

Karla could really clean.

"Do you frequently set the kitchen on fire?" Claire asked.

"Only when I'm cooking," she admitted cheerfully. "It got to the point when I was forbidden to go near the stove. And I wasn't even doing it on purpose."

Though it's possible she would have if she'd thought of it.

"I can handle the baking myself," Claire said quickly.

"Probably for the best," Karla agreed. "But point me to the things what need cleaning and I will."

She would also cheat, and use Craft. But it was still helping!
