The Valley Campfire: Monday Afternoon

Anyone coming across the campfire today would find Layla sprawled out on a blanket as she traced a convuluted route on a map of the Northeastern part of the United States. She was lying on her stomach with her feet up in the air as she munched on a snack of raisins and goldfish crackers

And while a fire wasn't lit in the firepit, there was a cooler of drinks and some goodies from J'GOB sitting on top of them for visitors to enjoy.

"If you want to assume nudity, go ahead," she sighed. "Because that was definitely a part of it."

"That's what I assumed, yeah," he laughed. "Only part of it?"

"I was... kinda in his bed at the time. Like, right next to him."

"Ooooh." Poor Bobby. Hannibal shot a sympathetic look at the penguin. "Awkward."

"Awkward," Kate agreed. "I'm glad he seemed sort of okay once I got some clothes on."

"If it's his first naked girl, there's usually shock," he said, nodding. "After that, it'll get easier."

"I hope I won't have to test that theory." A beat. "And I think I'm still going to go into a little shock if the timing of his turning back is as bad."

"You could always dress him in little penguin clothes to prevent that?" he suggested.

"Maaaybe," she said. "Although he'd probably just rip right through them. And it seems kinda cruel as well. Penguins are not supposed to wear clothes."

"True," Hannibal agreed, glancing down at Bobby. "Don't let him sleep in your bed?"

"Already taken care of. I handwavily grabbed his pillow and blanket when I went to get some of his clothes from his cabin. He's got a little nest on the floor now. He didn't seem to mind."

"See, even if he wakes up naked, at least he won't be right next to you," Hannibal said. "Kudos on that."

Kate smiled. "And I also hung up some of his clothes so that he can just grab them when he need them. Because my clothes were in a bag under his bed. That seriously slowed down the whole process of getting dressed."

"Wow, you didn't even get a chance to unpack," he said and laughed. "You've had quite a few adventures since getting here."

"Yeah. And for now I'm all adventured-out, so I hope nothing too major is coming. A nice, quiet week of going to class and hanging out would be nice." She didn't believe in the possibility with her track record, but it was nice to hope for it, still.

"I hope you didn't just jinx us," he said and winked.

Kate faked being serious and mildly outraged. "Don't you dare even say that!"

"Hey, if miniature rhinos invade tomorrow, it's your fault," he teased.

"Well, then, if people start harrassing me about it, I'm going to shift the blame on you. Because I'm sneaky like that."

"But that'd be a lie!" Hannibal exclaimed. "I didn't jinx us."

"You... said something that lead me to jinx us?" Grade A straw-grasping, here.

"If anything, we can share blame," he compromised. "Deal?"

"Deal," she said, offering her hand, and smirking.

"All right then," he said and shook her hand.

"Now we'll just have to wait and see whether the mini-rhinos and angry mobs appear."
