Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Sookie had been struck by the slightest bout of homesickness earlier, which, as it had her first night in Fandom, drove her to go to the store and return to her common room kitchen with armfuls of supplies to make banana pudding.

She was fairly satisfied with her first batch, which was set aside in a two-quart dish and from which she was sampling while she carefully whisked over a double boiler. She had no idea who was going to eat all this, but it was like a rule -- you couldn't make just a little of this stuff.

She was pretty sure she could find someone to eat it. It wasn't like people around here hated sweets or anything (though she imagined that'd be an awful life.) In the meantime, she stirred, pausing to turn the television onto some old sitcom, just for background noise.

"Claudiaaaaaa, it's for sharing," she said, grinning at her. "You like bananas?"

"It's generally part of banana splits," Claudia said, grinning back, "so it's fine."

"Then banana pudding should be fine," Sookie guessed. "I know about your intimate relationship with sugar and all."

Claudia giggled. "It's my second love, really. I think I discovered sugar and paste at about the same time."

Which really explained a lot.

"I heard it's getting serious," Sookie said, grinning. "Well, help yourself. It's my gran's recipe."

"My grandmother made sushi," Claudia said. "And tea. It's not quite the same thing."

"My gran makes tea, too," she offered. "But it's usually iced. And I'm not sure I've ever had real sushi."

"That is totes tragical," Claudia informed her. "We need to go and get some together!"

"Raw fish?" Sookie wrinkled her nose just a little. "I mean, I'll try it, but raw fish."

"There's also ones with fried things!" Claudia assured her. "And ones with cucumbers and stuff. It's yummy."

"And rice. I know that much!" Sookie said, eager to prove she wasn't a huge hick.

"And if it's really icky, you dunk it in a ton of wasabi and soy sauce and you totally can't tell," Claudia assured her.

"What's wasabi?" she wondered, trying out the new word.

"Japanese horseradish," Claudia said. "I'm going to be good and not make you add a bunch of it to your soy sauce because omigod, that's mean."

"IS it spicy?" she asked, thinking of the horseradish she knew.

Claudia nodded. "But it's yummy. And totally this adorable green!"

"I like green!" Sookie said, latching onto that part. "S'my favorite color, actually. That and yellow."

"I don't want to choose favorites in case they get upset," Claudia said, eyes wide, "but I'm going through a yellow phase right now."

"It's a happy color," Sookie offered.

"It's sunny," Claudia said, then giggled. "Like, of course it is. That's the crayon color everyone goes for when you draw it."

"What other color would you go for?" Sookie asked, giggling.

"I don't know," Claudia replied. "I like orange. Or white. Or sunset-ty. It depends what I'm painting."
