Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

Huh. No Arthur to be seen, which meant that Zack was going to step up to the Reserves-Leader-Plate again, grinning a little. He kinda loved taking charge! So what?

"So, since we're hopefully starting to get into the swing of things again, this week we're going to talk about our weapons. Again!"

Why not?

"Every weapon has strengths and weaknesses. My sword, for example, has excellent reach because of its size, but it sacrifices manoeuvrability as a result. An arrow is better for ranged attacks, but weather conditions like rain or wind might affect your aim. Some weapons might rust in certain weather. And being on an island, well, we're prone to that kind of weather, yes. So what we're going to do today is try to come up with one example of a shortcoming of our weapon of choice, and how we're going to account for it!"

Zack then motioned to a cardboard box over by the wall.

"And please, please take a bag of Oreo cookies with you when you go. For you, for a friend, whatever. I might have bought a few too many."

A few cases too many.

Even with as many strategy meetings as she'd been in while she was home Tahiri had missed the Reserves. For one, there were cookies (and don't think she didn't take a bag of Oreos). For two, nobody yelled and pounded people on the back the way Admiral Kre'fey did.

Ever had an overly enthusiastic Bothan banging on the nearest convenient flat surface that just might be your shoulderblade while he yells about blowing things up?

Yeah. Tahiri didn't miss that.

Food two weeks in a row? Firekeeper wasn't going to complain about that. Even if cookies weren't quite possessing much nutritional value.

Blind Seer, on the other hand, was complaining about why couldn't they have a nice fat boar for eating, just once?

There was really nothing like cookies to keep people wanting to return next week. Even people who weren't sure what they really had to offer when the discussion came to weapons.

But hey, oreos were a good distraction.

So, can you think of any particular weakness that yours might have? Share it, and see if anyone else can come up with a solution for that weakness. If you actually manage to solve the problem today, then bonus points to you!

"Fang," Firekeeper started without any preamble, holding up the dagger she kept by her side. "Is for close-range only. Can be thrown, but if I not strike right, prey may still have strength to run and take my Fang with them."

Worf held aloft what appeared to be a crescent shaped, two-ended scimitar.

"This is a bat'leth, a traditional weapon of my people. Translated from my language it means sword of honor. This bat'leth has been in my family for ten generations."

Worf frowned a little after making that statement as he suddenly realized that he may be the last of his family to use this weapon.

She held up her yo-yo.

"The problem with this is that it's somewhat close range and unless I want to cut through a blade I'm against, I might have the string cut. You can kind of throw it and get it right back, though."

She thought again.

"Also, the string might get wet or damaged in some other way and make it difficult to put to sleep."

"Kunai," she said, twirling one of them around on a finger with absent-minded ease. "They're versatile, but they're stronger for long-range use. Up close and personal, 'less you're fighting someone in the same boat, you've got the issue of them having more reach than you do."

"There's a lot of good things about a lightsaber, if you can use one, but . . ." Tahiri unhooked her lightsaber hilt from her belt and held it out on the palm of her hand. "The disadvantage to this cutting through just about anything is that it makes close-quarters work in tight spaces pretty dangerous to your companions."

She paused. "And it doesn't work underwater."

She couldn't swim anyway.

"My weapon is my brain," Layla announced as she crammed oreos into her pocket. "I can set fire to any of you just thinking about it."

"Well." Gabrielle tapped the butt of her staff against her ground and looked up at the little bit of white rabbit fur decorating the end up top. "I'm personally pretty fond of this staff, and it suits my needs just fine now that I've gotten pretty good at handling it. There's only so much you can do with it, though, and it is pretty big and rigid, and sometimes you need something smaller and a little more flexible . . ."

Oh, Gabrielle. Oh, honey, no. Just stop talking.

Savannah wasn't looking at all twitchy, nope, not at all.

"My magic is usually my main weapon," she said quietly. "But if I'm ever in a situation where I can't use it for some reason --" Swallow, try not to think about it. "I have a knife that I'm pretty good at fighting with."
