Third Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

It was Kate’s last day as one of the new kids. She was celebrating this by sitting in the third floor common room with some candy and a volume of manga.

Okay, so maybe ’celebrating’ wasn’t quite the right word, but at least she was happy.

Kate's eyebrows bounced. "How's life in the 2000s been for you?"

"It's definitely different," Jennifer said. "But I'm liking it better than my time, actually."

"Well that's good," Kate smiled. "And coming to Fandom is a culture shock to everyone. The island seems to be fair that way."

Jennifer nodded. "Though it's actually been a great help for dealing with some things."

"Like what?" Kate asked.

"Of course you don't have to answer if you don't want to, I don't mean to pry," she added after a short pause.

"I turn big and green and super strong when I get angry," Jennifer said.

Please excuse Kate while she blinks a few times.

"Huh," she said. "Green?"

"Green," Jennifer said. "It's a radiation thing, I think."

"I can see how that would be easier to deal with here than... a lot of other places," Kate noted.

Jennifer nodded. "People here actually know another me," she said. "It helps a lot."

"Another you?" After a few months in Fandom, that could be interpreted in so many ways.

"Oh, like... a grown-up me. In their universe," Jennifer said.

"Ah, that kind of thing," Kate nodded. "My roommate's in that kind of a situation, too. Kinda."

"Who's your roommate?" Jennifer asked.

"Bobby Drake," Kate replied. "He's pretty awesome."

"Pretty cute, too," Jennifer said. "He's a good guy."

"He's adorable," Kate grinned. "And he took care of me the week I was a cat, so I have no complaints. Who are you rooming with?"

"George Sands," Jennifer said. "He's sweet, and a really nice guy. Kinda really awkward, though."

"I don't think I've met him." A beat. "Oh, no, wait. I think he was in my film class, but I didn't talk to him. Just another person I didn't manage to introduce myself to before tomorrow."

"Well, feel free to stop by my room, any time," Jennifer said. "George could use with more girls in his life, I think. Help him... relax a little."

"Which one is your room, by the way?" Kate asked. "Me and Bobby are in 324."

"510," Jennifer said. "My little home away from home."

"Emphasis on little," Kate smirked. "I spent a few days at home over last weekend and my room there looked huge compared to the one here. Not that I don't like the dorms."

"Oh, I know that feeling," Jennifer said. "But I think they frown on us knocking down walls."

"Yeah, I don't think they'd appreciate us doing any remodeling in the dorms," Kate chuckled. "Plus, the next-door neighbours might have something to say about it, too."
