Roof - Friday Late Afternoon

Rose's ass was thoroughly kicked by her second training session in the afternoon.  So much so that she was pretty sure if she sat down on her bed, she'd end up asleep right up until tomorrow morning.  Which would be pathetic.

The rain seemed to have stopped though so she wandered up to the roof and sat on the wall.  It was totally dorky, but she even had a book with her to study. Something about that new determination plus actually having talked Dimitri into fight training had made her realise there were other parts of being a guardian she hadn't been paying attention to.  So she was fixing it...even if this book was a little too focused on the threat of guns to the protectees.

The longer she was up there, the less the book was actually getting read.

[Home from work early wheeee]

Mat's eyes went wide. "He can bloody understand me?" he asked, looking a little terrified.

This was Perrin's area of expertise, not his. He didn't want to end up with yellow eyes and a terrifying wife.

"Of course," Firekeeper told him. "He is Royal Wolf. Better than small, stupid kind most humans know," her voice held a slight note of scorn for these Cousins.

If Mat ever saw Perrin again and they weren't in the middle of some kind of bloody war, he'd have to ask if the ones his friend could talk to were small and stupid.

...and then get his head bloody handed to him. Maybe not.

"My friend can speak to wolves too," he finally replied, looking a little uncomfortable to be bringing that up.

"Is this a common thing?" Firekeeper had to ask.

"He's the only one I've ever met who can," Mat replied. "It turned his eyes yellow."

Which couldn't help but remind Firekeeper of Merlin's situation and a frown briefly flickered across her face. "Magic, then," she said as neutrally as possible.

There had been some talk about things that were old becoming new again, but Mat had made it a habit to listen to what Moraine had said as seldom as possible.

"Yes," he said with a nod, frowning as well. "It's hardly my favorite thing."

"Is not to be trusted, in my world," even the tentative peace they'd reached with Ynamynet was enforced by the iron jewelry she wore to weaken her sorcery, "here, though, I find is different."

"I don't trust it at home, either. We'll see about here," he said warily, reaching up to touch the foxhead medallion at his throat. "The bloody Power going awry was what sent me here, after all."

"I just run in forest and then I look around and... trees change, to ones here," Firekeeper confided.

"I was supposed to walk through a bloody hole in the air from one place to another. That part worked. The destination, well, less so," Mat replied.
