Roof - Friday Late Afternoon

Rose's ass was thoroughly kicked by her second training session in the afternoon.  So much so that she was pretty sure if she sat down on her bed, she'd end up asleep right up until tomorrow morning.  Which would be pathetic. 

The rain seemed to have stopped though so she wandered up to the roof and sat on the wall.  It was totally dorky, but she even had a book with her to study. Something about that new determination plus actually having talked Dimitri into fight training had made her realise there were other parts of being a guardian she hadn't been paying attention to.  So she was fixing it...even if this book was a little too focused on the threat of guns to the protectees. 

The longer she was up there, the less the book was actually getting read.

"She's not bad at all," Rose said, instantly defensive without even realising it.

"Who's your partner?" she asked curiously.

"Exactly," Beka said, not having meant Lissa at all.

The question was one she didn't want to answer and her shoulders straightened as she glanced away. "Don't have one."

"That why you're here?" she asked, too familiar with ways inconvenient people were sent out of the way.

Beka nodded. "My last partner was a lazy scut. He got transferred, but there wasn't anyone else to partner up with. My Lord was curious about this world so..."

"You got packed off to high school," Rose snickered. "Suck."

"My Lord wouldn't pack me off," Beka protested. See how she was a bit protective about nobility too?

"Funny cause I don't think I imagined you here..."

"Ywas that or mayhap transfer me to another district," she shrugged a shoulder. "He gave me the choice."

"What's wrong with another district?" she asked curiously.

"I want to work in the Lower City," Beka said. "Not a whole lot of Dogs do. If I find a partner, they wouldn't be eager to transfer. I don't want to find a good partner and then be stuck in another district or have to start over again."

Rose nodded. "Yeah, I get it. I wouldn' want another Moroi."

Beka smiled in relief, glad she didn't have to try explaining it. She'd no idea how to start. "Everyone of the Moroi has the same Gift?" she asked curiously.

"They've all different types of magic," Rose said. "Based on the elements. Why? Do you have magic?"

Beka shook her head. "I'm no mage," she said. Which was the truth, just bended.
