the roof - monday midday - 9/14
Fiona didn't often come up here. For one, despite an uneven temperament, she wasn't much for 'emo'ing. For another, she was usually reasonably comfortable in her room. But today, she'd come up to the roof with her phone and a couple of books and had decided to make a time of it. The wind was actually sort of refreshing and there was something to being up here, sitting in the sun, that fit her mood for the day.
Which, her being her, was thoughtful for the moment.
Her call to Eliot went well, her call home went quickly, her call to her Uncle Henry involved a few soft laughs, her call to her Aunt Dallas was aborted quickly if only to save her from going pink, and her call to her Uncle Aaron was about the same as the last one with one small addition.
"You have other abilities, Fiona. Learn them, get comfortable with them, know their limits, or they'll be used against you someday."
...which was the most relaxing thing ever, of course.
Dad was a little better, but he kept asking about Griff and how she felt about him which was just weird and nothing she wanted to talk about with her dad. When he asked what his parents did and what his prospects for the future were, she gave him a quick goodbye, claimed she had to go (which wasn't strictly a lie, since she was reasonably sure she'd die of mortification soon enough) and closed the phone. Wuhf.
The books weren't nearly so stressful but she was almost hoping someone would come up and provide a little company.

"No. My Aunts are kind of..."
She couldn't quite describe what it'd been like, looking at Aunt Dallas's string, how it'd just gone on and on out into the stars. Endless was what she'd call it, but she couldn't say that.
"My mother's a goddess," she admitted with a shrug.

Like 'Death' and 'The Pale Rider'.
The skepticism got a deep sigh and a flat look.
"I don't mention it if I don't have to. I just asked to make sure."

She looked wry. "Different universe, probably."

"Aphrodite down in the town is from a different one than me too. I don't mind so much. It actually makes things a lot less complicated."

Confusing, yes, but Didi and Dite weren't tempted to kill her, so less complicated.

And then she couldn't help it: she bust out laughing.
"Oh my-- really?"
She waved off the question before it and nodded quickly as she got her giggles under control.
"Death? You're Death in your world?"
She realized how rude it sounded a moment later.
"Oh my-- sorry. It's just. That's my mother. That's another of her names. The one I usually use too, since not too many people know 'Atropos'. The picture-- not laughing at you. Just. My mother."

Also, the Crone was ugly. Didi was cute. But vanity aside...
"I mean, I'm sure she's very proud to be your mother and you're a lovely girl, but ... wow."

"I've read that most worlds seem to have them as two different people. A lot of my family seems to have more than one name. My aunt Dallas is also Claudia and Clotho and Mother Nature and probably Aphrodite too where I'm from."

The past tense there hurt, but she didn't show it.
"But most of what you mentioned is different people, at home." A frown. "I'm sorry if I said something wrong, Fiona."

"I have some problems with my mother. It's nothing you did wrong. Our relationship is respectful, sometimes, and that's about it."

Atropos having a child. Seriously. Even with Didi's current biased point of view aside, she was not exactly the maternal sort.
"I should tell you that at home, your mother and her sisters don't exactly get along with my family," she admitted. "It's a long story. And," echoing the girls word choice, "nothing you did wrong."

"So you totally should. She runs the sex shop down in town."

Didi was halfway joking, but she would go, anyhow.
