4th floor common room - Dinner-ish
Twas a silly thing to be nervous about cooking. She didn't do it much at home either, there was little time and she was out doing Dog work when supper came. She'd time now. Plenty of it and it seemed useful to find out what those buttons in the kitchenette meant. Which was the goal of this visit to the common room with Jono. To figure out the cooking thing.
Just don't cook my fish, Pounce warned in what would be cat talk to anyone else but Beka. He took the safer route and jumped on the couch for a nap.
She ignored him and glanced at Jono. "You don't happen to know how to make apple fritters?" she asked.
[Jono modded with permission. And the post is open as common rooms are. Feel free to come mock the technology challenge girl.]

Jono stood there, staring at the bottle for a moment before he shrugged his shoulders and put it away again. //I happened. Little piece of what I am just up and decided it didn't like me having a face.//

She stared down at the beginnings of the batter, her eyebrows knitted together. Of all the folk she could have asked to help her out... "I'd not idea," it was an apology.

Pounce was instantly there, right beside Jono and ready to accept any piece of fish he'd had to offer.
"Mumper," Beka scolded him, flicking some flour at the cat. It didn't stick and Pounce's fur stayed a shiny black.

//Cats need to eat, too,// he mused, not unpleasantly.

"And it's the fastest way to buying their friendship," Beka added.

That would just add levels of unpleasantness to the smell he had about him already, really. Burning tires and day-old fish? He didn't need that.

Pounce was an exemplary kitten and while he wasn't stealing the fish, he was waiting patiently beside it.

And then, naturally, he had to tear off another piece of fish for Pounce. Because he was so well-behaved.
Jono, your bleeding heart for cute things is showing.

She added the spices, hoping she'd gotten the measurements right and mixed the batter once more. Almost time to add the apples. "A month ago I'd not taught I'd be having the time to make apple fritters myself."

"I'm on Evening Watch, it's the busiest time in the Lower City. We start at five in the afternoon, right through until one in the morning. The rest of the day I'm consulting my birdies or looking into whatever scent we've got no time to follow while on Watch." She could go on about this so easily.

He gave her a wry look, his head tilted slightly and his eyes narrowed in what could almost be a smirk. //I have to admit, that's part of the reason I offered to help yer find yer way about, here.//

The fish! It was now in the bowl with the batter! Where it would sit until the fritters were finished. Progress was being made!

"As would I. I'd go dizzy if I'd ran around the island again today," she motioned towards the fryer. "Is it good to put them in now?"

It seemed to him like it was one of those 'common sense through the ages' things. Don't splatter yourself with hot oil. It hurts.

Jono, play basketball with the deep-fryer some other time. When there aren't people who can wind up seriously burned as a result.
