"Today we will offer you the opportunity of sparring against each other," Leto said when everyone had gathered. "Zack and I will be here to assist you, or spar if you like. The combination of improving your skills and learning the strengths and weaknesses of your friends makes this extremely useful." He smiled. "And fun."

"So," Zack said, practically chirping yet again as he stepped forward to speak, "what we need you guys to do is to pair off, find a spot here on the lawn where you won't get in anyone else's way, and spar. Please, be careful to take it slowly at first. Understand that there are people who have far, far more experience than others in this field. It can't hurt to compare notes first, to try to judge if you're going to be wildly unbalanced or not."

"Exactly," Leto replied. "This is practise and we shouldn't have to take anyone to the clinic. If you have questions or concerns, talk to us."

"Same as if anyone does end up hurt." Zack nodded. "I have potions and healing Materia on hand just in case. Okay guys, have at it!"

"I think I mentioned it once or twice," he said, nodding. "Just maybe not how much time I spend with you."

As much as she understood why he didn't mention that, Tahiri was still always a little bit sorry that he couldn't. Or hadn't, or both.

"Okay, good. At least that way it won't be a huge awful shock or something."

"I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen Dad really shocked," Ben replied.

And finding out the two of them were dating might add to the list, but Ben didn't see it.

"He'll be in Fandom. That kind of increases the odds automatically, don't you think?" So much for trying to be the optimistic one.

"Only if Granddad gets bit by a gremlin," Ben decided.

Tahiri burst out laughing. "It would be wrong to kind of hope that happens . . ."

"Will you get footage of it this time, too?" Ben asked.

"Um." Tahiri turned a little pink. "I haven't shared that footage with anyone. But if your grandfather gets bitten over the weekend I think I need a holo of that."

"To send to every Luke we know," Ben said, laughing.

"And my Jaina," Tahiri added, grinning, "since Force knows she could use a reminder about how to laugh. It'd really be for the good of a lot of people."

"Think I could negotiate with the gremlins and bring that up?" he asked.

"Remember what happened last time people tried to negotiate with gremlins?" Tahiri replied. "You could try, but then I might end up with more holo footage of you. For the record, you were adorable."

Adorable. Just what every teenaged boy wants to be told he is, right?

Ben blushed to his hairline. "Adorable?" he repeated. "Really?"

"I think you're always adorable?" Tahiri tried.

"I'm not sure that's really helping," Ben said with a self-conscious smile.

"Well, you are. Deal with it," Tahiri replied. "Though I like it better when I can actually talk to you."

"It's not my fault you don't speak fluent Meep," Ben said. "I bet Threepio could've translated."

Tahiri snorted lightly. "Do you speak fluent Meep? I actually would've almost paid good credits to see Threepio deal with that."

"I don't any more," Ben said loftily.

"Well, that's a shame. I'm sure it would've come in handy at some point," she teased.

"Force forbid," Ben said. "Has anyone ever been bit and thought they were the same thing twice?"

"That would be too easy, wouldn't it?" Tahiri asked. "And now I'm starting to worry that I'm overdue to get bitten again."

Ben glanced around. You know, just in case. "I'll be sure to take holo of it," he assured her.

"Maybe I can get bitten before the weekend, and you can show your dad, and he'll go a little easier on me after he sees it?" Tahiri asked, biting her lip.

Yes, she was worried. Could you tell?

"You're really worried about this, huh?" he asked softly.
