Fifth Floor Common Room [Wednesday evening]

Sookie had gotten phone calls from both her grandmother and Tara earlier about the coming weekend. Gran had said she definitely wouldn't be able to come due to a recent storm taking out some pretty heavy damage on the house, so finances were limited. Tara had said she'd do what she could, but to expect a visitor no matter what. That was...cryptic and weird, but Sookie had kind of dismissed it as Tara being Tara.

In any case, to cheer herself up a little, she'd moved out to the common room and was whipping up a batch of chocolate-chip cookies. Partly because they made her feel better, and partly because she owed them to someone, so it'd be a good idea to have them on hand. She turned the TV onto Squee, because even if she couldn't sing, other kids could, and they'd make her happier. Plus, fake baby storylines were always amazing.

Spock's mother had indicated to him she was looking forward to meeting his friends this weekend. That meant there was only one thing to be done: he had to make some friends between now and Friday. Therefore, when he completed his call, he proceeded directly to the common room and said, "Greetings," to the people he found there.

Well, it was a start.

"Evening!" Sookie said happily, waving at the boy. "Want a cookie?"

"May I inquire as to the contents of the cookies?" Spock asked politely.

"Chocolate chips," she said promptly. "And then sugar, brown sugar, flour, shortening, a lil' salt -- standard cookie ingredients."

Sookie was nothing if not thorough.

"Then I must regretfully decline," Spock said. "Chocolate has rather a different effect on my species than on humans."

"Oh no!" Sookie's eyes went wide. "I'm so sorry! Chocolate is wonderful. I mean, probably not for you, but I'm so sorry you have to go without."

Actually, as Spock understood it, the problem was that chocolate was too wonderful to Vulcans. "I understand it holds great appeal to Humans," he agreed. "But I have never felt its lack in my diet."

"Can I get you somethin' else?" Sookie asked. "I feel bad! I'm Sookie, by the way."

"Hey! ...Spock, right?" Bobby frowned as he tried to recall his former cabinmate's name.

"That is correct," Spock said, then paused, because he was fairly certain he would remember a blue student. "And you are...?"

"Bobby. We met at the shuttle waiting room. I wasn't blue then," he supplied helpfully.

Spock imagined the boy without the blue and said, "Ah, yes, Bobby. How have you been?"

"Oh, you know," he shrugged. "The usual. Classes, bumming free food off people, contemplating just how disastrous Parents Weekend could end up being."

Spock tilted his head in a vaguely confused manner. You know, if you could read Spock, which Bobby probably couldn't. "Why would it be disastrous?" Aside from the part where his mother was going to be very disappointed if he didn't have friends.

Tara slowly raised a hand. "... greetings?" she tried in return. "I'm T- Tara."

"My name is Spock," Spock said to the girl. "I do not believe we have met."

Tara shook her head. "I don't, don't think so?" she said. "But this isn't even my floor. I live down on two."

"Then I welcome you to our floor," Spock said, "and trust you find it to your liking so far?"

"It has cookies and people singing Queen songs on TV," Tara said, flushing slightly in enthusiasm. "I think I like it."

"Excellent," Spock said, though he wasn't sure what the significance of the Queen songs was. "I understand the cookies contain chocolate."

"Hey dude," Hurley said, not even double-taking at the ears. "Want some nachos?"

Spock's eyebrow twitched upward. "No, thank you."

"Okay," Hurley said, giving the dude a thumbs up. "Just figured it'd be cool to share and stuff. I'm Hurley."

Spock inclined his head in acknowledgment. "I am Spock."

"Spock?" Hurley repeated. "Cool name. Guessing it's, uhhh, more common where you're from?"
