Hannibal knew that, technically, he should be spending his free time practicing so he wouldn't make a huge fool of himself when he finally fulfilled his requirements for losing his bet with Kate. Instead, he was sprawling in the common room, lights off, with a loud, action packed movie on the television. He'd ordered himself a pizza and decided that pretending that he didn't have humiliation in his future was a much better plan.

Which, Jono supposed, was more or less the trend with American film anyhow.

"Good point," Hannibal said, snickering. "She's hot though so I suppose that makes up for it. I guess I'll take hot girl and explosions on a Saturday night. I'm such a go getter, I know."

"Don't worry, I won't," he laughed. "At least we're out of our rooms, though, right? We're all getting in some socialization tonight even if it's over a crap movie. You do Thanksgiving the other day?"

//No, I...// Jono shrugged, stopping himself short for a moment while he worked out a reason for not joining the group that didn't involve going off on a rant about his lack of... most of him below the nose. //I'm British.//

"Sorry, man," Hannibal said, wincing. "Should've picked that up. "We can just blame the fact that my attention span's a little short and I just thought it was an accent from the midwest?"

When making a faux pas like he'd just made, Hannibal figured going for the joke might work.

//Which Midwest are yer thinking of?// Talking about accents, Jono could handle! It was less messy on more than a couple of levels, here. //Whichever America that is, suddenly I want to visit.//

So that he could avoid Thanksgiving meals in several realities. Collect the set!

"You know, I've never actually gone that far west," Hannibal admitted, shrugging. "New York, though, New York is a place I've been and I've heard accents like that before. When I was a kid, I even wanted an accent like that just to be a little different than my friends."

//I haven't gone much farther West than Massachusetts, myself,// Jono noted, shrugging. //New York seems to be a bit of a mishmash, though. I imagine yer could find about any accent yer pleased if yer just stood around on a streetcorner there and listened for a while.//

Just because he hadn't been there yet didn't mean he hadn't seen films and such.

"Not much on traveling or just no time?" Hannibal asked curiously.

//More like the proverbial 'fresh off th'boat,'// Jono clarified. //I was supposed to be attending school in Massachusetts, but some sentient mist or leprechauns or some such bollocks had other ideas, and so here I am.//

Okay, so he'd put in a handful of weeks at the Massachusetts Academy. That still wasn't really enough time to go poking around the rest of the country.

"Yeah, but here's not so bad," Hannibal said, smiling lazily. "I can't really complain about a place that does as much weird shit as this place does. I wouldn't get that anywhere else. It's like a growing experience for me."

"Man, I come from such a boring place," he laughed, shaking his head. "Strangest thing I witnessed before this place was a tornado that picked up a few cows. Freaky but not freaky."

"I don't doubt it," he said, tucking an arm under his head. "Enjoying the normalcy of this place, then?"

//More or less. I only stick out like a slightly cramped thumb here, I think. Not quite a sore one.//

"Just wait, in a few days, I'll be the only person people can talk about," he said. "And that's not me trying to be cocky. I'm going to humiliate myself in public because I lost a bet."

Oh, the mystery! The intrigue! Jono's eyebrow twitched up slightly as he considered that, and then he was trying not to smirk.

Or perhaps trying to smirk. It was difficult to tell which, with his face covered like that and no jaw to speak of anyhow.

"There's going to be dancing involved," Hannibal shared, trying not to blush. "Girly dancing. And I swear you to secrecy on this one. No spreading it around. This is just guy to guy."

//Guy to guy,// Jono agreed, with an air of solemnity to his voice that couldn't possibly be completely solemn. //Mate to mate, mate. Of course, now yer've got me wonderin' what sort of bet was so serious that yer risked public humiliation for th'sake of it.//

"One I thought I'd win. It was a bowling match and she hustled me," he said, scowling a bit in memory. "And I lost, to a girl and my girlfriend says I shouldn't run away because that wouldn't solve anything."

Don't ask where you can buy a camera, Jono. Don't. That would be in bad taste, and then he'd know to expect it, and that simply wouldn't do at all.

He'd try the Turtle & Canary first. They seemed to have everything.

"One of the parameters of the bet," he said, tugging at his collar and shaking his head. "I'm so fucking doomed, I don't even know. Running away and living in a tent sounds like the better option."

//Nowhere around here, I'd imagine.// Jono leaned his head back, looking down the bridge of his nose at Hannibal, thoughtfully. //Maybe you'll get lucky, mate, and some poor bastard will get themselves gremlin-biten th'same day.//
