The Roof [Saturday night]

Jaime had a huge bowl of fresh popcorn dripping with butter and drenched in s salt. He was sitting near the edge of the roof, just looking out. "Man," he shook his head, looking over at his companion, "this may be the weirdest thing that's happened since I got here. And that's saying something."

He snorted. "Does this sort of thing happen often?"

"And do you think we have enough popcorn for any other unaffected people who might show up?"

"Vengeance?" Jaime repeated innocently. "I haven't even done anything!"

Dinah pointed at him. "Don't give me that face! I don't believe that face!" She pointed to her own. "Not when I can do this too!"

"But... I'm so innocent!" Really!

"And, I'm so going to get those photos."

"Not if I get to everyone first." Tony would be okay. Merlin, maybe.

Jon, ohhh, man. Maybe if she got Claire to work on him? Maybe? ... Wait, did Katchoo get photos? Aaaaaack.

"I bet someone fits through the cracks. And then I get to see the amazing Tweety!"

Dinah's eyes narrowed as she TK'd more popcorn at him. "And I'll get to see-- wait, do you have a superhero name? With the whole--" She gestured to his head, then said, "Scarab?"

"Superheroing is dangerous business," Jaime pointed out with a grin. (In an oh-so-subtle dodge.) "And I like to play things safe."

"Yeah, true." Dinah sighed, drumming her heels on the side of the building, then said more quietly, "My mom was one. I was going to go by Black Canary for a superhero name, but, well... Anyway. At least I got to dress up as another version of her for Halloween."

He heard the past tense. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. Jaime leaned over, letting his shoulder gently bump into hers. "But I bet she'd be honored to have you use her name..."

"You think?" Dinah looked hopeful, and bumped her shoulder back into his. "Maybe. She said I'd be good at it," she added, a little wistful. "She was sick of it herself. But she was a legend. I hope I can live up to that."

"Well, you're making a good start of it," he said with a soft smile. "I mean, you've impressed me."

Wait... That sounded like either a back-handed compliment or like he was insanely arrogant...

"Mmph," Dinah said, rueful, taking it more as encouragement for something too huge to contemplate. "Thanks. We'll see, I guess." She tilted her head and confided, "The Black Canary in another reality, she had friends. Other superheroes. They all fought from this big satellite. Something to shoot for, you know?"

"The Justice League," Jaime said absently before he had a chance to think better of it.

Dinah blinked at him, then brightened. "You've heard of them? Back in your world?"

Fortunately he could play this one off. "Oh, yeah, they're kind of famous. You know, when you've got a space station that happens..."

No mention of the fact that he'd worked with the Black Canary once. She was hot in those fishnets. And she could kick his butt if he tried anything, too.

"But yay! Yes! You're from a reality kind of like mine and Raven's and all!" She beamed at him, and nudged his shoulder again. "She's got a Gotham City and a Metropolis too. So does Hayley, but she's from 1962 or something, so, not quite the same thing."

"Wait..." Jaime frowned, thinking back on the conversation. "You said you dressed up for Halloween..." Fishnets? Wow!

"Um." Damn, and they were skating past that so well. "Yes? Black. And... all that." Then, more quickly, "But I didn't really go out that weekend, only a couple people saw me in the costume."

"Are there... um... pictures of that too?" Way to go, Reyes... That would have been a lot smoother without the stutter.

"No?" Yeah, that'd be a lot more convincing if it weren't That Face, Dinah.

"Note to self: obtain two sets of pictures." Oh, man... she could never meet Brenda.

"Note to self: track down Paco, too," Dinah responded. Take that, Jaime.

"Hey, Paco's my friend, he'd never give you anything you could use." Unless she, you know, batted her eyelashes at him or something. Because... it was Paco. And Dinah was definitely a hot girl.

"Brenda it is, then," Dinah said, scheming, not knowing Paco, and unable to read narrative. "She'll help me! I'll tell her everything you've been doing here! And she'll give me dirt in return. Muahahahhaha."

Aren't you sorry you didn't throw Paco under the bus, Jaime?

"Brenda? Also my friend." And she'd also totally take Dinah's side on that one. They could never meet. Never!
