5th Floor Common Room, Monday Early Evening

Really, she ought to be asleep despite the ridiculously early hour. A weekend spent with little sleep and using loads of energy meant by all rights that she should be dead to the world at the moment. Ino had spent about an hour after her last class staring up at the ceiling before giving that idea up for a lost cause and wandered out to the common room to see what she could find that was entertaining enough to keep her from getting bored.

Normally Ino wasn't much of one for movies, but poking around turned up The Continuous Tale and it looked interesting enough for her to stare at while she tried to convince herself to unwind enough to actually sleep. Score!

That decided on, she made popcorn (because if she was going to do this movie thing, she was going to do it right) and curled up on the couch, hitting play. And, okay, maybe snuggle into a blanket as well. That counted as part of the whole movie thing, right? Right?

It totally did. She could even be convinced to share, if asked nicely.

"We've got giant," man-eating, "leeches back home," she shared brightly. "But I don't think we've got shrieking eels."

She pondered that.

"I think I need to see this movie at some point."

"Eeeeew. Giant leeches</i??" It wasn't even the man-eating part that would bother Francine. Especially. At least not more than the leech part. She tended to assume anything giant might be man-eating, after Fandom.

"They live in trees," she said helpfully, grinning at that. "We're taught how to avoid areas where they live."

"I would hope so!" Francine was quite finished shuddering. "Gee, all we get taught is don't take candy from strangers or get in their cars."

Her lips twitched at that. "I think you guys have--civilized more of the world than we have back home? I mean, we ain't no where near as advanced as this place is."

"Well, Fandom's..." Francine waved a hand around at... various direction that were somehow meant to encompass the entire island. "Way more advanced than home. We don't have computer holo-thingy classrooms."

"I didn't know that was out of the ordinary for here," she laughed a bit sheepishly. "I put it all under 'wow, not like home' and then it becomes normal for here."

"Some of the kids come from places that are way more advanced," Francine said, thinking of Ben and Tahiri. "Like travel to other planets and galaxies advanced. We... landed on the moon."

She nodded.

"I know some people come from--way in the future," Ino tried to explain. "But the exact differences in technology levels for that just sort of... blend together?"

"I... guess I can see that, yeah." Francine nodded and reached for a handful of popcorn. "I mean, once you get to holo-classrooms, anything more than that is all one big shiny blur to me, too."

Ino hitched her blanket up further around her shoulders and nodded again. "Yeah--so, like, we've got TV and some radio and phone stuff back home? Nothing as advanced or widespread as here, though? But anything past 'oh look, a car' tends to get 'ooooh shiny' and then I get confused 'bout what's normal here and what's normal other places. Car to spaceship I can get, but the in-between stuff is awfully hazy."

Francine worried with her tongue at a popcorn hull stuck in her teeth, which must have made for an interesting expression. "I wonder if the kids from the future get taught 'don't get in some stranger's spaceship if he offers you alien candy.' "

She laughed, both at the expression on Francine's face and at the thought.

"I wonder if they do? Or if spaceships are more like air planes--and little kids ain't likely to make it through security all by themselves?"

Francine considered that, but still had to snort. "You'd be surprised where little kids can get by themselves."
