Karla figured that she really out to try watching these Olympics things, now that she had a reason to care what was happening. She should probably figure out what 'curling' was, for example. Same thing for the 'luge.'

When she turned on the teevee, her attention was immediately grabbed by the ice dancing. Between this and hockey, Karla decided she could really get behind the Olympics. They kind of reminded her of home.

Dhampir reflexes snapped into action, and Rose snatched those crackers with their cheese back out of thin air.

"Fucking ask," she snapped.

"I did," Karla said innocently. "About the skeleton."

"Headfirst down a track on a sled," Rose replied after a longer glare. "They get up to like 90 miles an hour. It looks awesome."

For Rose who lived to be reckless, it sounded like the ultimate sport.

"More advanced sledding," Karla said, making a note of it on her sheet. "But still more a sport than ice dancing?"

Karla entire Olympic knowledge came from snippets of various conversations. It was all very complicated.

Rose shrugged. "Whatever floats your boat. It's whoever goes fastest."

"There's boating in the Olympics, too?" Karla asked, looking a little panicked. "My schedule doesn't say anything about that!"

Wow, she was an idiot.

"Yeah," Rose deadpanned. "There's boating in the Olympics. That's why it's in Vancouver so you got the water right there."

What? There was boating in the Summer Olympics.

Gee, sorry Rose, for not growing up in your world or being an instant expert in the Olympics.

Karla shrugged. "I didn't know Vancouver was near the water," she admitted. "I just know it's in Canada and three hours west of here."

Inwardly she blessed Bobby for giving her the correct pronunciation of Canada.

"But you've been watching it on tv, right?" Rose asked, rolling her eyes. "Every freaking time they show a city shot, the water is right there. Not so much a big secret." She shrugged. "And it's like 3000 miles away."

"Tonight's the first time I really sat down and watched it," Karla said. "I watched a bit of a hockey game, but that was all inside."

And she'd been more than a little distracted.

"I didn't have much of a reason to watch them, before."

"Obviously you need a reason," she snarked. "So what, if something's not completely relevant to you, you don't bother paying attention?"

Such a royal. She could give Monica Szelsky a run for her month.

"Sorry I don't spend all of my evenings glued to the teevee," Karla snarked, rolling her eyes. "I couldn't possibly have other things to do."

Like kissing her new boyfriend. Or relearning her lines after spending three months away from her script. "They've been on for what--a grand total of five days?"

"And now you're memorising the schedule," Rose replied. "Thanks for making my point, sweetheart."

"I'm trying to decide what I should see on Monday," Karla huffed. "It's research. It's not like I'm trying to memorize the schedule for the rest of the week. Or do you just not believe in itineraries?"
