Sixth Floor, Wednesday evening

Dinah had put up a few posters in stairwells - PARTY ON SIXTH FLOOR, ROY'S LATE 18th BIRTHDAY! - this morning on the way to work. She had a cake that had arrived special delivery from Alfred early today (with buttercream icing and chocolate ganache to die for inside), ice cream that she'd picked up a while back, and some silver and gold foil balloons and noisemakers scattered around the room.

Plus, of course, there was the ball pit.

Being inside eating cake and goodies was a lot better than being out in a fog with imaginary and real monsters in it.

Momoko kind of noticed, yeah.

"Hayley?" She ducked her head to try to see her friend's face. "There aren't any bad clowns here, so it's totally okay. And I totally wouldn't let any clown mess up this cake."

Hayley gulped, finally looking over at Momoko. "Sorry. Guess I was just thinking about something. And yeah, no bad clowns here. None at all."

Momoko didn't know why Hayley was so upset about clowns, but she did know it was making her friend upset. She reached over and hugged her.

"Hayley! Don't be sad, okay? No clowns, ever, okay? And you can totally tell me if you need something or just to talk, all right?" Especially if someone was messing with cakes. Nobody messes with cakes or her friends.

"No clowns," Hayley said, hugging Momoko. It was Hayley's obsessive nature that was getting in the way, lately. "Thanks, Momoko. But I don't... I want one friend who doesn't know about what the... the not-me did."

Momoko thought that through for a second. "Well, you do, and also one friend who doesn't care! And that's both me, because even if I did know, it totally wasn't you."

She nodded firmly. "Besides, the other-Momoko did stuff when she was here, too. And that totally wasn't me either."

"You weren't yourself that weekend either?" Hayley said. "It was awful, wasn't it? Like watching a movie you just wanted to run out of and never look back."

Momoko shrugged, remembering the Other-Momoko memories. "I think I am a bit glad, though? Because now I know how I handled different things in another world and I got to know myself a bit better."

Hayley looked utterly scared. "I really hope I didn't learn about myself better," she said, quickly. "I don't want to think that she was anything like me."

Hayley knew she was, but denial was helping her.

Momoko blinked. "Oh! I was actually another me. She went to Fandom, just like I did, but it was totally a trap and she ended up having to fight vampires and kill friends who became vampires and stuff like that. It was me, but in a different place, so that's why I said that."

"You must have had one of those times like I did last year - where it was totally not you? That's way worse!"

"Lets not talk about it," Hayley said, quickly shaking her head. "I shouldn't have even said anything. We should just.. have ice cream and talk about kittens or Elvis or David Bowie or something."

"Ah! I can't believe it!" Momoko stared at her incredulously. "I bought you an Elvis album when I was home and I totally didn't give it to you! I'm sorry! I am so so so sorry! After here we should totally go back to my room and I'll get it for you, okay?"

"I totally did! I can't believe I forgot about it! And I've seen you tons of times, too!" It was even wrapped in holiday paper, she'd had it that long. "I'm totally the worst friend ever. I'm so sorry!"
