Sixth Floor, Wednesday evening

Dinah had put up a few posters in stairwells - PARTY ON SIXTH FLOOR, ROY'S LATE 18th BIRTHDAY! - this morning on the way to work. She had a cake that had arrived special delivery from Alfred early today (with buttercream icing and chocolate ganache to die for inside), ice cream that she'd picked up a while back, and some silver and gold foil balloons and noisemakers scattered around the room.

Plus, of course, there was the ball pit.

Being inside eating cake and goodies was a lot better than being out in a fog with imaginary and real monsters in it.

"That's totally fine." Momoko agreed, then frowned. "What is going on? I mean, people were totally jumpy at Gun club. Are there really monsters in the town?"

She hadn't been out except to and from the shooting range, and even then only been in the fog for a short while.

"Yeah, one tried to break into the flower shop. Okay, one did break in, and only left after I threw every sharp thing in the place at it," Dinah said, a touch grimly. "A mini-dinosaur-godzilla thing. It was not my imagination! It definitely wrecked the place!"

...she was 98% sure.

Momoko stared at her for a second.

And then another.

"Godzilla?!"

Dinah blinked. "Not really! No! Just... looked like the one in the movies, yeah, okay?"

"Godzilla... Here?" Momoko's eyes lit up. "DINAH?! Why are we here? We totally need to be out there fighting him! Unless he's the good Godzilla, and then we totally have to find him and help him get back home! Either way, we should totally be out there fangirling helping people!"

"Because the fog is evil and we might end up taking each *other* out before we get within a quarter mile of him," Dinah said, fairly sensibly. "So we can't do that until we have breath masks or something else."

"I don't know! I just know that I got lost in it, and when I was out in it, I saw ... stuff. That wasn't there! Jack and I almost got in a huge fight, 'cause he thought I was a giant lizard and I thought he was a monkey-pony." Dinah shuddered. "So. Wrong."

"Huh. That's totally weird. I don't remember that in any of the movies." She scratched her cheek. "That would be why everyone is so weird about it. So it turns people into monsters? Kind of like the black particles used to back home. That's not good."

"No," Dinah said, shaking her head. "I think we hallucinated it. Because as soon as we hit each other, and fell down, it all became clear again, you know? I was me, and Jack was Jack."

"Oh. So the people aren't really monsters. That does make it harder. Was the Godzilla monster really a monster, then?"

"Given the mess it left behind, and the claw marks on the table, I'm going with 'yes'," Dinah said, biting her lip. "So yeah, if we're going to slay monsters, we need to be extra-careful."

"Well for starters we totally don't slay them, Dinah!" Momoko shook a finger at her. "If they're really people, we'd find a way to capture them and then let the scientists try to turn them back into people."

She nodded. "And if they're really monsters, then we just have to make sure they stop causing trouble. Lock them up or just send them off the island somewhere they can't do any harm." Like, you know, wherever they went when she sent them flying away...
