The Sixth Floor, Friday Afternoon (Pre-Dance)

Once again, Emma had taken over the sixth floor, setting-up spots for hair and make-up, as well as making sure there were lots of snacks to munch on while people got ready. She was 'helped' in all this by a terrier puppy who was running around, supervising all the details.

After all, so many of the people at Fandom were completely hopeless when it came to things like this. It was her civic duty to try and at least prevent people from embarrassing themselves.

[OOC: Post is open to all the girls in the dorms! No, no boys allowed (EXCEPT THE AUTHORIZED CRASHER WHO KNOWS WHO HE IS). If you seriously annoy Emma, she will brain-zap your butt back downstairs, and you will hiccup uncontrollably for the rest of the night. ETA: UP. FINALLY. I'm around on SP until 6CST, and then AFK until 11ish.]

"You look good in blue," Karla said, nodding. Ignoring her predilection for blue, of course. "You're all kinds of golden, with your hair and your tan. The blue highlights that, yes."

Dinah leaned over and hugged her. "I wish you could go. We'd have a blast. What are you doing tonight, though?"

Karla grinned and hugged Dinah back. "I'm kind of happy that I'm not," she admitted. "I mean, I'd love to go to the dance and see everyone, but...I'm having a picnic on the beach after this." She pinked a bit. "Our first real date."

"OOoooo!" Dinah bounced over the couch to sit down and look eager. "Yes! Way to go! I want details later. Swear!"

Karla just kept grinning, following behind in Dinah's bouncing path. "It won't be anything much, I'm sure," she protested, with a laugh. "Just a picnic. But I'll be bringing a cake along, since his birthday was sometime this winter and he didn't see fit to tell anyone."

Karla was a bit relieved about this, yes. Kissing a fifteen year old George sat better with her than kissing a fourteen year old one.

"Roy did that too. Dork. That's why I had to have a party for him. But yay, cake!"

Um. "... where'd you get the cake?" Please say you didn't bake it, Karla.

"Well, if I'd had more time I would have baked the cake," Karla said earnestly. "But he only told me yesterday, so I bought the cake from JGoB while I was in town today."

"Awwww." Yes! "I'm sure he'll appreciate it anyway, you know?" She grinned. "Too bad you couldn't bring back a cake from Mrs. Beale. Wow, her cooking was as completely terrific as you said it would be."

"Then I'd've had to explain why I wanted the cake and..." Karla shuddered. "I wish he could have gone, but I'm awfully glad I didn't need to have that discussion with Morton. And Saetan. And Lucivar."

"Him. Great big bossy..." Hot, sexy. "...jerk. Guy." Dinah made a face. "And dense! Even if he is a good fighter. And didn't mind fighting me. Jeez." She shook her head, and said, "How does he rate getting a say over who you date now?"

Karla raised an eyebrow. "Did you miss breakfast?" she snorted. "If nothing else, we're both First Circle. That gives him right to declare defense and protection."

"I was there. I still didn't get it, but..." Oy. Protocol. Dinah shook her head. "Why can't he just leave it at 'I've got your back if you need it' instead of demanding you eat and work out and getting fun out of being bossy?"

Then again, Dinah *did* know Arthur. Who pulled the same stuff, just with slightly more finesse, when she got hurt.

Karla thought for a moment. "It's hard to explain. Part of it is just because he's Lucivar and he's like that. Part of it was because he had a really good reason--he doesn't often get a chance to train me personally and he wants to take advantage of every opportunity he gets. And part of it? Kaeleeran males are just very...hands on? Maybe that's a good way to describe it. It's just...part of our dynamic, I guess. We're a lot more primitive about some things, or so Ender says." Karla snorted, looking both amused and irritated at the comparison.

"Hands on," Dinah repeated, and thinking that that fit Arthur pretty well to. "And impatient." Which explained a lot of that spar, and a good bit about Lucivar. "Ender's a smart cookie. And you've told me about some of the instinct stuff before, so... that makes sense." Gotta have rules, if people were going to react without thinking-- and so as to avoid those situations before they happened. Primary colors for the interactions because of it, and bigger, simpler emotions.

Lucivar had called her world chaotic and complicated, based on what Karla had told him; that went with it too...

"He is, even if he's not entirely a diplomatic cookie," Karla said, rolling her eyes. "Of course, what happened at breakfast wasn't really Protocol. That wasn't an Ebon-Gray Warlord Prince forcing a Sapphire-Jeweled Queen to do something she didn't want to do. That was Lucivar messing with his baby sister's best friend. You'll see the difference some day, I'm sure."

"I'd have hit him... well, I did. With sticks. Your Uncle Saetan is surprisingly awesome, sometimes." Dinah grinned. "And I am suddenly glad that my best of best friends don't have older brothers. It would get messy."

"Why surprisingly?" Karla asked, smirking at the idea of Dinah hitting Lucivar. "And why did you fight with Lucivar? Besides the obvious 'he had it coming,' I mean."

"He grabbed my honey-pears!" ... not dirty. "Or he tried. Without even saying please! Just 'share'. And then he threatened to spank me, which is so not happening, and then we just kept yelling until your Uncle threw us outside." She tried to look ashamed of herself, but didn't quite manage it. "And then we got into an argument about landens while we were stick-fighting. His head is denser than all you guys' jewels put together."

Karla was just going to sit here and laugh for a few seconds, if that was all the same to Dinah. "Even I had to be at the Hall for a week or so before Uncle Saetan threw me outside," she said, still giggling. "Though, I admit, I only needed to meet Lucivar for a few minutes before we got thrown out of his study!"

"You were so right about him being a jerk. A total jerk." Dinah had to pause and reluctantly add, "A hot jerk. And I think he's a good guy. But still. I am not his little sister, or his little sister's best friend, and he may be seventeen thousand years old but he's still dense."

"Very dense," Karla agreed. "But...he's also had a really tough life. He was a slave in Terreille for almost his entire life. Did you notice the scars on his back? Whipmarks from the salt mines in Pruul. I think being a jerk is what kept him going all this time. So I'm inclined to be forgiving. Even if he is really dense."

"He did mention that," Dinah had to admit. "And. Yeah. The equivalent of a zillion lifetimes in prison... Maybe in another century or so he'll chill out again, and not be so sure he's right." She shook her head. "Anyway. I had a great, great time there, even with the sparring--" Especially with it! "--and I'm glad we got to go."
