Dorm lawn [early afternoon]

Juliet was happily sticking her foot into her mouth on a blanket as Anakin and her (younger, at least theoretically) brother Christopher raced around on the lawn. The little boy squealed loudly as Anakin caught him and tossed him into the air, using the Force to make him hover for a moment.

"Again!"

"Say please," Anakin replied.

"Peas!"

"Close enough."

And being on campus meant that Anakin had put his lightsaber into the weapons locker. And he won't kill people in front of his kids! Come play Jedi tag!

Tahiri wasn't really here to play tag, and she had her hand on the shoulder of a nine-year-old girl in Jedi robes as she approached Anakin; she'd had a long talk with Cassa last night after she'd found the girl coming back from Caritas to explain this particular family-connected quirk of Fandom. Cassa had insisted it was all right, and she had to meet her great-grandfather.

"Master Skywalker," she said as they approached. "Someone really wanted to meet you."

Anakin had listening to the radio, so he had a small inkling of who this might be.

"Hello," he said quietly to the little girl. "I'm Anakin."

"I know," Cassa answered formally, and drew herself up a little straighter. "You're my great-grandfather. It's nice to actually meet you."

She gave him a long, thoughtful look and smiled. "I'm Cassa, and I think it's interesting how different you look from Dad even if you have the same name." A lot like her mother at the same age, this one.

"It's nice to meet you, Cassa," Anakin said, giving Tahiri a quick look. "Am I what you expected?"

Tahiri squeezed Cassa's shoulder and gave Anakin a crooked smile and a nod.

"You're nicer than I thought you would be," Cassa said honestly, with a quick look at Tahiri for reassurance. "Mom's right. Dad would have liked you."

Anakin swallowed hard around a sudden lump in his throat. "So he's not with you any more?"

Cassa shook her head, then scooted closer and tried to project the thought to him through the Force the way she'd been learning to do; she was better at it than Mom was. I was hoping he would be, here. Mom said he isn't, though.

I've never met him, Anakin said, trying to keep the wistfulness from his mental voice.

He crouched down to get a better look at the girl before him, looking for family resemblances.

"I know," Cassa said out loud this time with a lopsided Solo smile, and Anakin Solo's open, fearless eyes. "That's why I asked Mom to let me meet you. I know I'm not him, but it's something, right?"

"It's more than just something, young one," Anakin said, a well of conflicting emotions threatening to spill though his careful control. "It is so very good to meet you."

Cassa was too young to hide her relief all that well, and her smile turned a little crooked like Tahiri's. "I'm glad. I was worried it would be hard," she said honestly. She wouldn't be entirely wrong about that, either. "So now I'm not sorry I went through that portal when I saw it. I'd like to have good stories to tell about you."

"It's a good kind of hurt," Anakin said softly. "Would you mind if I gave you a hug?"

Cassa's eyes lit up. "Not at all. You can hug me as much as you like. I'd be sorry if I didn't let you, and Mom says that's the sort of thing you never want to be sorry about." She paused. "Not this one. The one at home."

"Hello, Tahiri," wee Anakin said when he spotted her. Behind him, Raven gave Tahiri an apologetic glance for attracting the attention of the demon child.

Tahiri had to stop and stare at the little boy, wide-eyed. "Hi," she said, more than a little thrown off by the fact that he looked like a very creepy tiny version of . . . well, of her Anakin, if he'd been evil. "You must be Raven's . . . um . . . how do you know me?"

"My mother was still in school when I was born," Anakin said. "I remember you." He paused and almost smiled. "I am Anakin. Mother named me for her teacher."

Raven was almost tempted to gag the child.

Tahiri could have facepalmed. Actually, no -- Tahiri did facepalm, and nearby Cassa looked up and ran over when she heard the name.

"That was my dad's name, too," she announced. "Wow, Mom, he almost looks like those old holos of Dad."

Tahiri gave Raven a why am I not surprised look. "Yeah, I sort of noticed that. You were still in school?"

"His father...is Chuck," Raven said, turning red.

"In this time I would be born next month," Anakin said helpfully. He gave Cassa a very interested look. "But I did not know you at all."

"That's because I don't exist in this world," Cassa replied with a matter-of-fact nod. "Mom never came to Fandom for me."

Mom, she sent to Tahiri, he's creepy.

Anakin stared at Cassa. "You think I am creepy," he said. "Good. I like that."

Raven just shrugged helplessly at Tahiri.

Tahiri was trying really, really hard not to let on how much it bothered her that someone with that name and that uncanny resemblance was so off-putting. She patted Cassa on the shoulder.

"We'll just have to work on your shielding some more, okay? As for you," she said, fixing Anakin (!!!) with a look, "you'd better not be using those powers of yours like that."

"Mother says I must only use my powers to help and heal," Anakin said flatly. But the gleam in his eyes didn't quite match his tone.

"And you should listen to her," Tahiri replied sternly. Maybe a little too sternly -- oh, hello there, issues. "She's right about this."

"Of course," Anakin said, staring at Tahiri with his creepy dark eyes. "It is always better to know another's desires...and help fulfill them."

Raven cringed. "Stop that, Anakin," she said. "Now."

"As you wish, Mother," Anakin said.

At least he didn't have ice blue eyes; that would have been a lot more uncomfortable, especially with Cassa right there. Still, Tahiri didn't like it.

She hated to admit it, but she really wasn't a fan of Raven's kid.

"Not always," she said a little more fiercely than she meant to; Cassa sensed her agitation and moved closer, wrapping both hands around one of Tahiri's.
