3rd Floor CR, Friday Morning

Jack had arranged his week to have a three-day weekend for ease of travel back and forth to Baltimore. Of course, now that he wasn't visiting Baltimore so much, it meant he had a long chunk of dead time at the end of every week. It bothered him.

Today, he was trying to fill that time in the common room. There was some rerun on the television -- a wacky doctor show, full of adults acting like children in ways intended to be humorous -- but Jack's attention was on a chess board he'd pried free from the back of the storage shelves. He didn't play chess regularly, but he was decent enough to find it a good mental exercise.

He was playing himself. Right now, the black side seemed to be winning, but Jack saw a way for his white pieces to regain their advantage.

[OOC: Open common room, natch.]

Effy curled a little smirk and picked something marshmallowy out of her bowl as she settled on the end of the couch to observe. "Don't know if I know you well enough for that."

"It's more 'how well do I have to know them to entertain them well'," she decided after a moment of thought. "I don't really know what you like, do I?"

"Not much of a storyteller," Effy admitted. In fact, not a chatty sort altogether, something he may well have noticed by now. "One of my flaws."

The flirting however, she was quite good at. "Gonna have to imagine some of the stories I could tell."

"Taking that comment as you thinking you'll need all that to come up with stories I could tell." So she was taking it as a compliment.

Effy grinned a little. "I do try." It was far more fun with her kind of excitement in it, and it did help to distract her from... other issues.

"Do you?"
