3rd Floor CR, Friday Morning
Jack had arranged his week to have a three-day weekend for ease of travel back and forth to Baltimore. Of course, now that he wasn't visiting Baltimore so much, it meant he had a long chunk of dead time at the end of every week. It bothered him.
Today, he was trying to fill that time in the common room. There was some rerun on the television -- a wacky doctor show, full of adults acting like children in ways intended to be humorous -- but Jack's attention was on a chess board he'd pried free from the back of the storage shelves. He didn't play chess regularly, but he was decent enough to find it a good mental exercise.
He was playing himself. Right now, the black side seemed to be winning, but Jack saw a way for his white pieces to regain their advantage.
[OOC: Open common room, natch.]

"Who's winning?" he asked after a moment. "Good Jack or Evil Jack?"
no subject
"Good Jack always wins," he said angelically. "How are you, Alex?"

That found, and emptied in a bowl, she made her way over to peer at the board a little closer. "Must be really bored," she commented eventually.

From the way he was smiling, it was probably a joke.

Yeah, yeah, he knew that wasn't the case but teasing her about it was too fun to resist.

"Notice you're not passed out somewhere either," she commented. "Must go both ways."

"Quite like my scary marshmallows." And they were technically breakfast cereal. Even if she was eating it more like a bowl of popcorn. "Full of nutrition, I'm sure."

"What colour are you cheering for?" she asked. There would've been a comment on the boringness of the game, but given the people already in the CR, Rose figured that had been covered. "Anyone want a donut?"

modchoose as he pleased. "You'll eat 'em." She studied the board again. "Right. Go grey then!"no subject
"Grey's the best color in chess," he nodded, before taking a bite. "And this is very good fried dough."
