3rd Floor CR, Friday Morning

Jack had arranged his week to have a three-day weekend for ease of travel back and forth to Baltimore. Of course, now that he wasn't visiting Baltimore so much, it meant he had a long chunk of dead time at the end of every week. It bothered him.

Today, he was trying to fill that time in the common room. There was some rerun on the television -- a wacky doctor show, full of adults acting like children in ways intended to be humorous -- but Jack's attention was on a chess board he'd pried free from the back of the storage shelves. He didn't play chess regularly, but he was decent enough to find it a good mental exercise.

He was playing himself. Right now, the black side seemed to be winning, but Jack saw a way for his white pieces to regain their advantage.

[OOC: Open common room, natch.]

"Great influence, you are," Effy remarked, and yeah, she followed that by eating that lime green marshmallow.

Couple of seconds later she considered it might be polite to offer the bowl Rose's way. You know, since she'd been offered donuts and all.

"I've been told that," she agreed but shook her head at the offer. "I'm leaving all those tasty nutrients to you. Try to avoid 'em myself."

"Mm." Well. All the more freaky coloured cereal for her. "... Have a good Prom in the end?"

See! She could make small talk and be decently sociable when she had to.

"It was freakily good," Rose admitted. "Like embarrassingly so. What about yours?"

Effy nodded, curling a little smile. "I had my fun."

That'd be understated Effy-speak for 'pretty fucking awesome'. "Didn't actually stick it out to the end." Rarely did, these days.
