3rd Floor CR, Sunday Afternoon

Playing with wee Tony the afternoon before had been enough to convince Jack he should watch the entire Space Battles trilogy. It seemed to be valuable cultural knowledge ... and apparently it had a princess tied up while wearing a gold bikini in it.

He ordered a few pizzas in case some of the lurking children needed to be fed, took a slice of pizza with extra cheese, and settled onto the couch in the common room as the DVD started to play.

"Gummi pengis?" Bobby tried. They were a food! Right?

Jack made a face. "You need pizza. Were the pengi sour or sweet?"

He asked the important questions.

"Sweet! Kinda like peaches but not real peaches, the fake-candy kind of peaches. You know?"

[bitten_notshy]

"Like sugar and juice," Jack nodded. "I don't really like that kind of candy. I didn't have it much when I was little. But it's better than sour."

"Jean says it's a sometimes food," Bobby reported, as if this were knowledge imparted from on high or something. "She says pro-teens are better for you. Cookies have pro-teens 'cause Sookie knows all about cookies and she said so. Does pizza have pro-teens?"

Oh, ask the boy from 1899 that. Jack stared dubiously for a moment.

"It has vegetables!" he said brightly, as he attempted to recover. "Those are good. And I think cheese is a protein."

"My parents always useta say I had to eat vegetables before I could leave the table," Bobby considered. "Somehow they're betterer when they're on pizza though."

"They are, aren't they?" Jack agreed. "I think it's the cheese. Cheese makes almost anything taste better."

"'Cept maybe ice cream," Bobby wrinkled his nose a bit at the thought.

[bitten_notshy]

"... no, no that wouldn't go very well at all," Jack conceded. "I don't think I'd like cheese on my breakfast cereal, either."

"But for dinner things," Bobby said, after mentally compiling a list of stuff cheese wouldn't be good on. "What're we watching?" Even as a teenager, Bobby's mastery of the art of the segue wasn't all that complete. So it's no surprise that he didn't really have a grasp on the concept as a child.

"Space Battles," Jack said. He'd about exhausted the subject of things cheese would be good on, anyhow. "I hadn't seen it start to finish before. Tony seems to think it's important."

"Like you were playin' outside yesterday!" Bobby nodded. "It is important. How come you haven't seen all of it?"

Jack managed not to facepalm. "Yes, like I was playing," he confirmed. "IU haven't seen it because it's 1900 at home, and it's never seemed important in the last year."

"Oooh," Bobby said, impressed by the first part of Jack's explanation. "Time travel! I wanna time travel. It'd be fun!"

"It is fun," Jack had to agree. "I never thought I'd see the 21st century, and and now here I am. I still don't know how it works, but if you get the chance I recommend it."

"How'd you get to?" Bobby asked. "In a machine like the movies?"

Jack shook his head. "I just got out of the coach at what should have been the rail station to Fandom, and it was the airport instead. I don't think it makes any sense, really."

"Yeah, I've never hearda that happening," Bobby agreed. "Well, except now I guess. How do you get back? I take portals sometimes when I go visit home, but I never took a portal before here." Nor had he taken one since waking up Saturday, but he had a vague memory of having done so before.

"I'm in the right place when I cross the causeway," Jack told him. "I think it's a portal itself, somehow."
