Main Campfire [Monday evening]

Sookie loved summer. And while it wasn't really summer yet, it was close enough.

The one thing that she didn't really love about summer was the cabins. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy being around her classmates in close quarters. It was that there were certain disadvantages to her telepathy, and those were amplified in close proximity. There were certain members of her cabin in particular who were -- ahem, very loud broadcasters, so it was little wonder that only the second night of being in the cabins found Sookie outside at the main campfire, having taken some preventative ibuprofen.

Granted, there was some niceness to being outside, too -- she loved being outdoors, and even if it was a bit brisk, that only meant that the fire wasn't oppressive. So she got a bunch of hot dogs and marshmallows and IDK other things you can roast on a stick, mod away and set up at the main campfire, hoping to draw in some company that she could at least block out more effectively out here.

Tim sat down on one of the logs and waved at Sookie. "How's it going?" he asked. He pulled a plastic bag from his pocket and extracted two squished marshmallows from the interior, which he stuck on a toasting fork.

"...good," she said, peering at him. "Honey, why're there marshmallows in your pocket?"

Ino arched an eyebrow at him.

"Fiendish marshmallow addiction?" she guessed.

Karla glanced over and gave Tim a grin. "How're you feeling?" she asked. "Doing okay?"

Peter sat down and stole a marshmallow, which he didn't even bother to roast before popping in his mouth. "Thanks," he said, smirking. "You know, I think a person could probably get away with spending nothing on his own snack supplies on this island."

"I don't know where all the food comes from, half the time," Sookie admitted with some amusement. "I usually just go into a common room and there's stuff already there for me to bake or cook. In this case, this was all in my cabin's kitchen. It's like magic."

"I don't think I know you," Ino carolled. "So this is me, wanting your name."

Tahiri was finally un-grounded, which was a relief, except for the part where the cabins meant it was about that time of year.

It had her slightly preoccupied, but at least she wasn't a walking ball of soul-crushing emo, right? "Hey, Sookie," she greeted as she approached the campfire and poked a few marshmallows onto a stick to roast. "How's cabin life treating you so far?"

"Headacheishly," she said, figuring Tahiri would understand. "But otherwise, it's nice out, and school isn't really school. Can't complain. How're you?"

"Tahiri!" Karla gave the Jedi a wave and a smile. "How've you been? I feel like I haven't really seen you since my birthday party. When I was dreadfully concussed."

"Someone clear on the other end of my cabin snores loudly enough to wake me," Rilla griped as she stalked toward the fire, skirt swishing.

"Poor you. Welcome to the cabins, Rilla," Sookie laughed. "You should get them some of those strips for their nose."

"Who?" Ino wanted to know! "And hi person I don't know yet. I'm Ino!"

Karla gave a tentative wave in Rilla's direction. She remembered how the other girl had fled during the newbie picnic and wasn't going to push.

"Freedom!" Ino carolled as she flung herself down by the fire.

"Freedom?" Sookie repeated skeptically. "Were you imprisoned before now, Ino?"

"Oh come on, you can make that more dramatic. Really draw it out. Also what do you suppose would happen to a marshmallow dunked in soda?"

Fire. Fire usually meant food and company. Karla was definitely in the mood for both.

"Kiss kiss," she called, strolling up. "Ooooh, sausages! Please tell me they're for sharing."

"All for me," Sookie teased, gesturing expansively to the food. "I'm vowing to eat only things on sticks forever, and in large quantities."

"None for you," Ino said impishly, and yet making no move to keep them away from Karla.

She just liked being contrary, yep.

"Oh, marshmallows," Alex said, making her way to the main campfire. She'd been on her way to her cabin but she'd totally hang out for a bit, just to roast some marshmallows. She was easy to please sometimes. "Also, hi."

"Hi! The marshmallows are for sharing," Sookie assured her, holding out the bag.

Alice didn't like the whole brightness part of the place, what with that whole sparkling thing, but luckily it'd seemed a lot more toned down here. She didn't get it and wasn't going to argue.

Evenings were her favorite time, though, when it was dark enough that there wasn't any danger of the sparkling going on -- because she didn't feel like explaining it most of the time -- but it wasn't so dark that it was oppressive.

"Hi," she greeted cheerfully, sitting on a log by the main campfire.

"Hi!" Sookie said brightly, smiling at the girl she didn't recognize. "Marshmallow?"

K-Mart liked the campfire. They, oddly enough, reminded her of eating dinner back home, everyone gathered around in odd little groups and eating as quickly as they could.

She snagged a stick and a hot dog and settled in.

"Hiii," Ino chirped cheerfully. "How're you?"

No, it didn't really matter to her that she didn't know this person.

Leda emerged from the darkness with a bottle of something fizzy and sweet for sharing.

"I want you all to know that I resisted the urge to stalk through the woods and scare you."

Partly this was due to the conviction that if she attempted that, not only would she fail, but then something would come up out of the darkness behind her and...yeah.

"...thanks?" Sookie offered, raising an eyebrow. Because honestly, it was pretty hard to sneak up on Sookie. Unless you were a vampire.

Scully wasn't thrilled with the idea of staying in her alcove, and the living room of Alligator made her restless. So she headed out to the main campfire, holding out her hands to the blaze, and idly studying the faces ringed around it.
