Main Campfire [Monday evening]

Sookie loved summer. And while it wasn't really summer yet, it was close enough.

The one thing that she didn't really love about summer was the cabins. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy being around her classmates in close quarters. It was that there were certain disadvantages to her telepathy, and those were amplified in close proximity. There were certain members of her cabin in particular who were -- ahem, very loud broadcasters, so it was little wonder that only the second night of being in the cabins found Sookie outside at the main campfire, having taken some preventative ibuprofen.

Granted, there was some niceness to being outside, too -- she loved being outdoors, and even if it was a bit brisk, that only meant that the fire wasn't oppressive. So she got a bunch of hot dogs and marshmallows and IDK other things you can roast on a stick, mod away and set up at the main campfire, hoping to draw in some company that she could at least block out more effectively out here.

"Yeah, okay, but why?" she asked, still puzzled. "You've just been keeping them in your pocket to snack on all day?"

"I have a bet with Karla," Tim said. He found a spot that was more coal than flames and started toasting his marshmallows. "I said I could eat a bag a day without puking. I figured it was better to spread them out a bit."

"Ooooh." Sookie privately thought that this was both a really dumb bet and also something she was desperately glad to be witnessing. "You should also try and prepare 'em different ways, too. Like, I wonder how many marshmallows are in a spoonful of marshmallow creme. You could have fluffernutters!"

"Do you know how to make that?" Tim asked. "I figure I'll want some variety."

"It's just a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich," she said, grinning. "But I'm sure I could figure out more recipes. Variety seems like the easiest way to ensure you don't make yourself sick."

"Peanut butter's like, real food, too," Tim said. "I wonder what else you could mix with marshmallows? I had them with my eggs this morning, which made an interesting side dish."

She really tried to keep her face straight and diplomatic. But she just failed so badly at it that all she could say was, "Ewww."

"I'm not saying I'd recommend it."

"I mean, there are some things that I bet would go great with marshmallows -- other sweet things, mostly. Eggs are so far off that list," she said, her nose wrinkling. "But hey, as this experiment goes on, maybe you'll make some kind of culinary discovery."

"Sometimes sweet and salty stuff works together," Tim said. "This just wasn't one of those times."
