Peter didn't particularly want to gather a crowd, but making a campfire and tossing black snakes and firecrackers at it seemed particularly amusing today.

So yeah, there was definitely a bit of noise. Peter wasn't a blossoming pyro or anything, he was just a bored teenager. Anyone was definitely welcome to join him. He might even have some moddable extra bits of fireworks.

That expression? Kyle's busted expression. He tried to clarify. "I'm okay here. Home isn't okay any time, but I think," he paused to think of what to say. "I think it's getting worse. But I'm here and I can't change that here. I'm just okay." He wasn't sure if that made sense.

"You can't change anything while you're here," she parsed, frowning a bit. "But you know things aren't going well back home? I don't suppose there is a way you can help from here?"

Kyle shook his head. "I can only follow my orders and do what I have to do here. It kind of sucks." He managed a smile.

"It really does," she said sympathetically. "And I suppose your orders are to stay here. I mean, for whatever it's worth, at least you're safe here. And when you graduate, you'll be able to go home and work on things -- you're sort of...being preserved."

It was similar to what she'd said to Karla a week or so ago.

"Every army needs a second line," Kyle nodded, coming to the same realization. "It's a good place to train. So you were saying you're not liking the cabins? Someone causing trouble?"

"Not exactly. Close quarters for someone with mind-sensitivity, is all," she admitted. "I'm dealing with it. No one's like, starting fistfights in my cabin or anything."
