Main Campfire [evening]

So, yeah, Puck was a little on the tipsy side. He'd gotten drunk in his alcove, though, like a person who didn't want to get in trouble.

Such an occasion, of course, called for fire. Sadly this was pretty typical back in Lima, too, where there weren't even firepits. On the bright side, that meant he was able to light a fire pretty effectively.

And now he had a bag of procured marshmallows, which, okay, he'd toast. But more importantly, he'd found a box of Peeps left over from Easter and was meticulously shooting them, throwing them, launching them and otherwise flinging them into the fire to make them alternately blow up or melt. So far, more were melting than blowing up, really, but if it worked in a microwave, Puck was sure it had to work even better in a fire.

[oooopen yes.]

"I approve of experimentation," Peter said. "Puck here is just exploring the effects of heat and flame on processed sugar and yellow dye number 2."

"You call it experimentation. I call it torture," said Harper. Even though she was pouting, she still helped herself to marshmallow. She didn't mind eating ones that didn't have eyes.

"I'm pretty sure torture requires nerve endings," Peter pointed out.

"Well, what do you think their eyes are attached to?" asked Harper, even though she knew she was losing this argument.

"A soft marshmallowy center," Peter said.

Harper was quickly running out of arguments. She almost suggested that they cut out a Peep so she could show him what was really attached to the eyes, except all the proof he needed was melting in the fire.

"I suppose, as your official big sibling, that I should ask how you are adjusting to the school," she finally said.

"And given my original skepticism, I should be apologizing for not believing you," Peter said. "Adjustments are ongoing, but starting to smooth out. This place definitely throws you for a loop."

"I'm glad to hear that," said Harper. "And even when you think you've been here long enough, there's still surprises. Hopefully you'll be better prepared than I was."

"I plan on avoiding being caught off guard," Peter said. "Surprise is inevitable, though. After all, you can't really expect things like mysteriously appearing baggage."

"So you had that too?" asked Harper. "I kept finding it at work and thought maybe it was new used merchandise."
