Main Campfire [evening]

So, yeah, Puck was a little on the tipsy side. He'd gotten drunk in his alcove, though, like a person who didn't want to get in trouble.

Such an occasion, of course, called for fire. Sadly this was pretty typical back in Lima, too, where there weren't even firepits. On the bright side, that meant he was able to light a fire pretty effectively.

And now he had a bag of procured marshmallows, which, okay, he'd toast. But more importantly, he'd found a box of Peeps left over from Easter and was meticulously shooting them, throwing them, launching them and otherwise flinging them into the fire to make them alternately blow up or melt. So far, more were melting than blowing up, really, but if it worked in a microwave, Puck was sure it had to work even better in a fire.

Karla laughed again and then beckoned a row of marshmallows out of the bag and up over the fire. "I realized the other day that sticks are kind of redundant," she said, as the marshmallows began rotating slowly in place. "And hopefully now I can keep them from catching fire!"

"That's pretty handy," Tim agreed. "I think I'm going to skip marshmallows for a bit, though."

"I don't blame you. All things sweet or just marshmallows for now?" Karla asked.

"Just marshmallows," Tim said. "I think I can still handle other stuff."

"Would you like to try one of these, then?" Karla asked, calling in one of the honey-pears from her tree. "They're a fruit in my world. They're very sweet."

Karla was so, so sad that she didn't have a stash of pickleberries now. Because she was mean.

"What is it?" Tim asked, accepting the honey-pear. "And... where did it come from?"

"It's a honey-pear," Karla explained. "From the Territory of Karkhava, back home. I have a mini-tree in my cabin."

Tim took a tentative bite. "Oh, wow. This is really good!"

Karla smiled at him. "I'm glad you agree," she said. "My last trip home we visited an orchard. If you drank at all, I'd offer you some honey-pear cordial."

"Thanks," Tim smiled back. "It's pretty good by itself, actually."

"You should try them stewed," Karla said reverently, clasping her knees loosely. "As soon as she got some, Mrs. Beale had to try preparing them in every manner possible."

"Huh," Tim said. "Do you have enough to spare a few? I know someone back home who might like to try cooking with something new."

"Your friend from the car?" Karla teased. "He the cooking type?"

"What, Dick? Not really," Tim laughed. "His family butler is, though."

"Do all butlers in Gotham cook?" Karla asked with a chuckle. "Dinah's butler--well, Helena's, really, cooks like a dream." She eyed him a little and smirked. "I bet her butler can outcook your friend's."

C'mon, Tim. You know another dare from Karla is exactly what you want right now.

"No way," Tim said. "Nobody can outcook him."

"You just say that because you're from the wrong Gotham," Karla teased while the DC characters all died a little inside. "If I thought I could get away with it, I'd so try to lure Alfred away to my Court when I set it up."

"... Dinah's butler's name is Alfred?"

Karla nodded, briefly distracted as the marshmallows she'd completely forgotten about turned into bright red balls of flame. "Mother Night!" she cursed, dropping them into the fire. "What a waste."

She turned back to Tim, still sulky she'd burned all her marshmallows. "Yup. Alfred. Of the most amazing cookies ever."

"Who's Helena?" Tim asked.

"Dinah's older sister," Karla answered. "Sorta. Let's see...Barbara's last name is Gordon, but that's not Helena's. It's...Kyle, yes. Helena Kyle. She's lives in a big old mansion in Gotham."

Karla knew better than to mention the Clocktower, but figured Wayne Manor shouldn't be an issue.

"Do you know Alfred's last name?" Tim asked.

Karla thought for a moment, and then looked completely surprised. "I...don't. Huh. It just never came up. He's Alfred. I kind of thought it was his last name, like Beale, the butler for the Hall."

"Dick's family's butler's name is Alfred, too," Tim explained. "I don't think there's a Helena in the family, though."

Karla frowned thoughtfully. "I don't think she's related to any Dicks," she said, though it was entirely possible Helena herself would disagree with that. "Probably just some kind of weird coincidence then."
