The Lobby, Sunday Afternoon

A rip opened in the middle of the dorms lobby-- but it was unlike any void the island had seen before. It didn't precisely shine, but white light did filter out, almost tentatively, like the rays of the morning sun. It did not pull or pluck at anything, and when it vanished, it would leave the dorms exactly as it had found them.

It was not a rift that would take; it was a rift that would give.

Give back the people it had taken, that is.

"Okay is good," Dru said. "Okay is a hell of a lot better then severely injured or even worse, dead."

"I was lucky. I managed to stay on island." Something she was very, very grateful for. She couldn't imagine dealing with the blood hunger without somewhere safe to run to. "Not that it was safe. There were all sorts of nasty things running around."

"Have any trouble dealing with them?" Bruce asked.

"Scully and I had to unload a bunch of bullets into some giant scorpion thing down at the Magic Box," she replied with a shudder. "It had stung Karla, but fortunately she was able to heal herself. Beyond that I've been sticking around in the dorms. It seemed safer that way." For multiple reasons.

"... Scorpions. I guess we were lucky," Bruce said. "All we had to fight were deformed, homicidal people."

"Damn," Dru said quietly. "That sounds like nightmare territory."

"I'm sure a lot of people will have trouble sleeping for a few days," Bruce said. He wasn't one of them, really. "It's not like you had it any better, from what it sounds like."

"I've dealt with worse," she shrugged. Killing her father after he'd been turned into a zombie for one. "Not by much though. I guess this means I might have company if I'm up watching late night TV."

"I wouldn't be surprised," Bruce said. "Did anything else happen here besides the random monsters?"

Oh Bruce you really don't want her to answer that question. At least not from her personal standpoint. Gee I wanted to sink my teeth into my friend's throat and drink their blood tends to put a damper on most conversations.

"More rips in reality. It seems like half the island was gone," Dru said. "Talk to Karla for the full details. She was all over the place doing Reserves stuff."

"All that because three parts of a machine went missing," Bruce said. "I doubt the island is still under warranty by now."

Dru snorted. "This is what happens when you don't get regular oil changes."

"Does the island have regular maintenance?" Bruce pondered. "Who would even be responsible for that?"

She'd made the comment as a joke, but now that she thought about it, Dru realized Bruce did have a point. "School board maybe. But after the last few days I'd say they've been falling down on the job."

Bruce didn't joke around for too long. Ever. "I'm sure it'll be a point of discussion in the next few days."

Bruce nearly said that it had better be. But then he would miss out on crazed adventures. He didn't necessarily want that.

"I'm pretty sure Principal Winchester will be looking into things," Dru replied. "Anyway, I have coffee and stuff over there if you want it. Otherwise I'm sure you probably want to go grab a shower and some clean clothes. I should let you do that."
