The Lobby, Sunday Afternoon

A rip opened in the middle of the dorms lobby-- but it was unlike any void the island had seen before. It didn't precisely shine, but white light did filter out, almost tentatively, like the rays of the morning sun. It did not pull or pluck at anything, and when it vanished, it would leave the dorms exactly as it had found them.

It was not a rift that would take; it was a rift that would give.

Give back the people it had taken, that is.

Helen nodded, burying her face in Kianah's fur to try and hide the tears welling in her eyes. If no one saw, then she could keep herself from truly letting go. "They'd better not," she said in a muffled voice.

"They will not," Hinata said, a bit of steel coming into her voice. "Th-They school will not do that."

She nodded again. "I do think you're right. They want us all safe and well also."

"It is," Hinata murmured. "For the best of us all after all."

Helen nodded. "I'm sure we all need a good night's sleep somewhere we feel safe."

"That is something we can both confess to, I think," she said softly.

Helen almost managed a laugh through the sniffles. "Oh very much so, yes."

"Go and rest," Hinata said gently. "And it will seem better tomorrow."
