Locust campfire- Thursday night

This was really weird.

Jaina didn't have the anxious, jittery feeling in the cabins that she used to. Some closure and time had done some good there. No, the weird part was that she was still in the cabins again. But it was this or singing insects and she'd already screamed at them twice before the announcement, so she figured she was fighting a losing battle there. It was just very strange going back to something she'd thought was fun at sixteen and then circumstances had sort of ruined the fun part.

Still, she could deal with it, and it wasn't going to stop her from getting a fire going and bringing out the makings for s'mores when she was pretty sure it wasn't going to be raining. When you'd been deprived of chocolate as long as she had, you found reasons to have it.

"Ahh, that might explain it," said Dani, nodding. "My name's Dani Davis. I'm not related to anyone on the island, I think. Piper Halliwell and I discovered once that our fathers could be identical twins, but that appears to be coincidence."

"Doppelgangers are fun that way," she said, nodding. "The old librarian used to look like my father. And his identical cousin." No, really.

"That must have kept you guessing," said Dani with a chuckle. "Of course, my dad has been known to keep secrets, and I'm still not even sure who my birth mom is, so I have always wondered if I have more relatives out there."

"Always possible," said she whose family was sort of weird like that, yes. "And who knows, they could always show up here, as tends to happen."

"That might defeat the purpose, since I came here to get away from my family," said Dani. "I suppose I should be ready in case they show up. I've already had a few unexpected visitors."

"Besides the bugs?" she guessed.

"The bugs might have been easier to deal with," said Dani, nodding. "My dad paid one visit last fall, where he spent his time disapproving of everything and paid my business partner to leave town."

"He sounds like a winner," Jaina said dryly, not really thinking about the fact that she'd hit someone who said that about her dad.

"You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family," said Dani with a shrug. "I'm sure my dad has his admirable qualities, but it's hard to remember them at times."
