Locust campfire- Monday night

The thing about Jaina's current situation was that she always felt like she had to be around people. It was beginning to get annoying. She took that as a good sign. And since she figured there'd be something wrong with her going to Caritas again, she headed out to the campfire, started a fire... and kind of regretted it because it was a little warm for that.

Whatever, there were marshmallows to be roasted and you couldn't do that over thin air.

"I think your reflexes are slow," she said, catching it. It would not be eaten, no.

"I think you've go super human abilities, alien girl." No, he wasn't above calling her an alien.

"I'm still not an alien," Jaina protested. "I'm a visitor. A human one." Yes she remembered that.

"Alien." John liked it better that way. It gave him a sort of weird amusement that alien girls liked hitting on him.

"Visitor," she said. "It was your word."

"I like alien better these days," John told her. "Being as I was the visitor most recently."

"But if I was home and then I'm back here, I'm still just visiting," she pointed out.

"Still, you call that place home, you're an alien." That was just how it worked.

"But I'm visiting here. I am not budging on this, I like 'visitor.'" She could say they were both right, but no.

"Alien." Yeah, they were both too stubborn for this argument to ever end now that they weren't sleeping together.

Yeah, she was thinking that by now she'd normally have cuddled up to him and started winning the argument. After tonight, she was thinking cuddling up to him would pretty much go the same way and that would be bad. "Why don't we call it a draw but I win?"

John snorted. "Screw that! Why not call it a draw but I win?" There was a reason Jaina was ever allowed to win without a fight.

"Because I'm not letting you." Seriously, had they ever ended an argument without sex before? How did it happen?

"Just like I'm not letting you." John crossed his arms and looked very serious.

Jaina folded her arms too, then. "So how do we resolve this?"

"I'm thinking we spit in each other's faces when next we meet."

He was kidding. Mostly.

Wow, her answer was quick. "You are not spitting in my face."

His reply was just as fast. "Immature hand gestures?"

This reply was slower. "Such as? Wait, I probably don't want to know, do I?"

"Well, I mean, I could throw gang signs but it's not like they mean anything here." Oh gods.

Jaina had to laugh. "Tell me you don't know gang signs. I don't know how you would."

"Hey, I've been around," John told her. "Besides, Mitch was a knowledgeable kind of guy."

"Does this mean you were roaming the streets of Palo Alto throwing gang signs with Mitch when I wasn't around?" she asked, eyebrows raised. She kind of wouldn't put it past them.

"Well, not after he broke his hand punching the tree," John said, thinking waaaay back. That had been a fun birthday. Gavin had even shown.

"Did I hear about that?" she asked. It sounded kind of familiar, but she wasn't sure if she was just imagining things. Again, she could see it.
