wannabehunter: (thoughtful)

Fourth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

By now Jo was acutely aware of just how little time she had left in Fandom, but rather than mope, she'd decided to be proactive about things.

Which was why the floor of the fourth floor common room was (barring enough room to step around them) completely covered in road-maps for every state from Maryland to Nebraska.

She also had her laptop open to several news sites. No reason.

"It's what might be lurking that you don't intend to go after that bothers me."

"I have faith in your abilities," Edmund assured her. "Goodness knows you've survived years here and held your own." Plus he'd seen her in action and knew Jo to be quite handy with defending herself. "It's the stories you've told of what might sneak up on you. That," he started, then let his comments stand as they were.

"Jet's a good companion, but if you're going to keep doing this, having someone who speaks English and can fire a weapon would be better."

He gave a small smile. "I don't know that I can. But a visit one weekend here or there in between classes might be possible."

"You were accepted?" he asked, realising a moment too late that he shouldn't have sounded so surprised. "Why didn't you say?"

"Well congratulations are in order for being accepted," Edmund insisted. Then he recognised the look on her face. "What subjects would be useful for what?"

"That sounds," he started, trying to find the right word, "hefty."

"This is all in the pursuit of hunting I'm assuming?"

"Would you dress appropriately as a teacher and wear glasses to make you look smarter?"

Edmund's face turned red. "That wasn't what I meant," he explained quickly, though now he was thinking about it and became even more red. "Hunting pays?" Smooth change of topic accomplished.

Things a King who was known as 'the Just' probably wouldn't approve of. "You do realise you've managed to find a way to further your hunting training and please your mother."

Ah, Fandom.

"I'm waiting for the catch now. It doesn't seem like something like this should be possible."
