Farewell Slumber Party, 6th Floor, Wednesday Night

By now, Karla was used to throwing parties at school. The set-up was easy enough: lots of food, lots of drinks, lots of games and activities, lots of space. There were some streamers and balloons up, mostly because Karla was trying to remind everyone (or, at least, herself) that this was supposed to be a happy occasion.

Really. It was. At least, that's what everyone kept telling her.

The important thing to keep in mind was that there would (probably) be no repeat of her last sixth floor party sadly. She had gone the safe an glitter-free route this time. Clad in her new pajamas, Karla waited for her guests to arrive.

[Yay for slumber parties. For girls only (and our honorary girl for the evening), up early for great SP justice. Please hold for OCD up!]

Rosalind was, really, what had changed her mind. Because like hell she was going to sit back and let her sister die a second time. And once she'd decided that, then trying to stop people from finding a workaround for Zack ... it was hypocritical, and sort of pointless to boot. Fuck the timelines.

She tried to remember exactly what Tseng had requested.

"What Zack knows," she said, "and what he's put together as guesswork, even if it's wrong. Where in the timeline he is, definitively and not just our best guess. It'd be great if we could know what's changed, from his reality to ours -- that Zack never went to boarding school, so little things could be changing already, but he wouldn't know what those are."

She lifted her shoulders. "The more ammunition Tseng has, the likelier he can get through to Zack's Tseng, when the time comes. And that means we might have the full operational weight of the Turks behind whatever we're trying to do."

Barring herself. She was still at the Academy when everything happened.

Ino's lips twisted as she thought, not looking pleased but not--upset either.

Pensive.

"He's a few months past killing Angeal," Ino said finally. "I'm not sure what else to tell you timeline wise, I'm not aware of the markers you guys want either. I can look into it, if you need that more specifically. He ain't been having missions lately and--" wait, there was something, "I don't know that this is important, but he said he called the Director and he ain't heard back to him yet?" But, you know, he could just be busy.

Ino figured that any Director of SOLDIER had to be a busy person.

The Director? She wasn't as up on her history of ShinRa as she should have been. But that sounded significant. Something was twigging in the back of her memory.

"I'll pass it along," she said. "As for what he knows ... I know he's heard about Midgar."

And, more specifically, it not being there any more. But she wasn't giving out any more detail than she had to.

"Bits and pieces," Ino admitted, but they come together well enough to paint a picture. He knows 'bout Jenova and 'bout her having ability to control SOLDIERs and that he thinks she's probably what destroyed Midgar and crushed ShinRa. And that SOLDIER are monsters and that Jenova uses monsters to do her work for her and that some of the people who're ShinRa ain't always goin' to be--I think he's talkin' bout Cloud," and Ino was venomous at that name, "and he doesn't know what to do or what to say or how he's supposed to fit in 'cause everyone from your time freaks out and panics at the sight of him knowin' anything and he knows enough to know the end is coming. And that he's involved somehow, someway."

She would never tell Elena, though, that he'd cried under the weight of that.

Elena would keep her thoughts about Cloud to herself, but the flicker of annoyance across her face probably told enough.

Jenova, ShinRa, Midgar. She was committing as much as she could to memory.

It felt like Zack had most of the puzzle pieces. More than she realized. Dammit.

"Do you think we should tell him more?" Elena asked. She wasn't sure that she'd do it, if Ino said so, but she couldn't fight the idle curiosity. "I don't want him to be haunted by the future, but it has to be tortuous not knowing."

"I think," Ino said, eyes cool. "That so long as we're workin' towards a future he can do something 'bout, he'll be alright. The rest--ain't my decision."

"Not mine, either," Elena said, lifting her shoulders uncertainly. "If Tseng has questions -- needs more details, without it being too obvious that someone's asking. I can call?"

"You can call," Ino said, smiling slightly. "Like I'd turn down a way to help change things, right? That'd be stupid."
