Farewell Slumber Party, 6th Floor, Wednesday Night

By now, Karla was used to throwing parties at school. The set-up was easy enough: lots of food, lots of drinks, lots of games and activities, lots of space. There were some streamers and balloons up, mostly because Karla was trying to remind everyone (or, at least, herself) that this was supposed to be a happy occasion.

Really. It was. At least, that's what everyone kept telling her.

The important thing to keep in mind was that there would (probably) be no repeat of her last sixth floor party ~~sadly~~. She had gone the safe an glitter-free route this time. Clad in her new pajamas, Karla waited for her guests to arrive.

"Raven, I don't think there's anyone who could find you not appealing in that way," Karla said stubbornly, folding her arms across her chest. "As long as you're okay with it, I guess it's fine. He just...doesn't get to pressure you, all right?"

Perhaps later, Karla could try to figure out why she was so not-okay with this. Or, she might just choose to ignore it, blame it on Jaenelle's experiences in Littler Terrielle, and go about her merry way.

Damn the lure of the Room of Emo Repression.

"I will not let him pressure me, I promise," Raven said. She lifted a hand, hesitated a moment, and touched it to Karla's arm. "I have already made one mistake, and I do not wish to do so again. And I have told him that I wished to spend more time with him, for I think it is lack of that that would hold me back. We have discussed going away somewhere the weekend after this upcoming one."

"Oooh, where?" Karla asked. She nearly suggested a double-date vacation, but the little, often-ignored voice in her head piped up shrilly screaming for her to keep her mouth shut. "Well, I think it's a perfectly reasonable request," she said instead. "Sex and love are entwined for you and spending time together is the only way for you to fall in love with him."

Karla reached up to cover the hand Raven was resting on her arm with her own. "As long as you do what you feel is best for you, your friends will back you all the way. Whether it's having sex or not, we're on your side."

If Raven had known what Karla almost suggested, the little voice in her head would've been screaming as well, and owing Anakin money for trademark infringement.

"Oklahoma," Raven said. "I have never been there -- but I have never been a lot of places -- and that is where Andy is from. Perhaps if we see Weber there I can find out why he does not like me at all."

"Are you sure he doesn't like you?" Karla checked. "Maybe he's just bad about showing emotions?"

Raven was an empath, sure. But she was also an empath with self-esteem issues and might have taken reticence for dislike.

Raven shook her head. "I thought perhaps I was imagining things and just allowing my anxiety about meeting him to influence what I sensed, but...he ignored me much of the time, and when he did not, he was making insulting comments about me or my gifts. Andy was not happy. But I do not understand what I could have done to make him feel that way about me."

Now Karla was questioning the desire to go back and see more of this guy. "Prick," she said, succinctly. "Sweetheart, it's not your fault. Some people are just born to be asses. Perhaps Andy got all the positive qualities in the womb. But there's nothing about you--nothing--that someone like him could judge you for."

Sure, there was the demon thing, but she doubted Weber would have known about that.

"Perhaps he will like me more if he has a chance to come to know me," Raven said, nodding along with Karla's words. "I do not wish to cause friction between Andy and his twin, however. I do not want to be a source of conflict for anyone."

"When people are determined to have conflict, there's really nothing you can do about it," Karla said with a sigh. "If Weber is determined to resent you for nonsensical, male reason then he will, no matter what you do. But that's not something you can really concern yourself about, because, really, it has nothing to do with who you are, darling."

Yes. Some nonsensical 'male' reason. Because Karla had NEVER been jealous of her friends and their other friends before. Really.

Raven managed a tiny smile. "Thank you," she said. "I know I can always count on you to make me feel better."
