The Deck | Afternoon | Thursday | September 9
It was too nice a day to spend it inside, Bod decided. His one class had been easy so he'd gone into town after and picked up some pastries from the bakery. He hadn't ever had a sweet tooth before but he seemed to be gaining one now.
Miss Lupescu wouldn't be too pleased.
With that done, Bod hadn't even gone up to his room. He'd detoured onto the deck, dropped his backpack and settled into a chair to stretch out and let the sun warm his face. He could feel autumn in the air, smell it on the wind and he was anticipating it.
Summer wasn't the best season for an Englishmen especially an American summer that consisted of a huge sun and blistering temperatures. Bod would just take advantage of this nice day by lounging on the deck and eating sweets.
[Deck's open. It's really that gorgeous outside.]

After a pause, she added, lightly, "And you can always stare at me if the clouds aren't to your liking."

Of course.

"You might not be."

Still, Kate could do with a bit of quiet. It actually was a little tiring to be on the phone all day. She liked to talk, but when the same lines kept repeating over and over, it got a little less fun.
So, some silence was good. She stared up at the clouds, and idly wondered what it was like to be able to fly, and whether she could ask Warren to take her up there without the whole flamingo thing for incentive, and whether he could get her coffee again before he did.
And then she thought briefly of Mitchell, and then pointed up at the sky and said, "That cloud looks like an ice cream cone."

So, he sighed instead, eyes flicking back and forth along the fluffiness of some misshapen clouds.

"And that one's totally a kitten," she decided, pointing at another cloud. "So that one next to it is probably a ball of yarn that's been ripped to shreds."

He still didn't say anything but he'd ended up smiling now.

"And there's one that looks like... cotton candy."
Most clouds looked like cotton candy. Whatever.

"Kate?"

[Good niiight!]

[Good night! Sleep well!]

"Is it?" he asked, still frowning somewhat. "I haven't known you ever to want me to be quiet so we could talk about clouds before."

"I didn't realize anything was really wrong with that subject," he said apologetically.
