Second Floor Common Room; Monday Afternoon

It wasn't Shira's common room, but that wasn't stopping her from plopping herself down on a couch and flipping through the TV channels.

People could make her leave if they didn't want her there. The second floor was just more interesting today.

Even if what was on the television was even more boring, if possible, than anything she'd watched before.

"Well," Ariel said, thinking, "I'm leading the Glee Club, which will be so much fun and I can't wait and so many people signed up! And I want to try out for the cheerleading squad, too! I think I can get in."

"You certainly seem to have the attitude for it." Leda nodded. She thought she might have to go watch tryouts.

"That's what I was thinking!" Ariel laughed a little. "I mean, I can be a little klutzy sometimes, but that won't change if I don't try to improve it, right?"

"Probably not." she agreed. "Are you klutzy? I can't say I've ever noticed that about you.'

"I can be!" Ariel admitted. "Sometimes. It's like, I don't know," here she laguhed a little carelessly, "like having feet and legs is entirely new to me or something. They just get all jumbled up underneath me when I get excited."

"I've heard of that happening with human teenagers." Leda said sagely. "You like, grow too fast or something."

"Something like that," Ariel said with a little blush behind her smile. "Yeah. But it's fine if I'm dancing, and cheerleading looks like it could be a lot like dancing."

"It really does. And I've heard some people say that if you just keep moving, like, not give yourself a chance to lose your balance, it works out."

Trying to picture it, Ariel could only laugh. "See, now, I can just imagine that would make it worse for me, although I do like that applied to life in general."

"It's good in moderation. It can be nice to stop every now and then and take a breather."

"Fair enough," Ariel allowed, "so long as it's not too long of a breather. There's too much stuff to explore to rest for too long."

"There is that. Hmm. I wonder if I could talk my way into getting time after graduation to see the world a bit before I have to settle down."

"Ooh, you should at least try!" Ariel said with a grin. "What would you have to settle down into?"

"Well there's this whole thing about my being the heir to the throne of Faery. I'm supposed to be crowned after graduation."

"Right after? Man, that's a bummer! I guess that's kind of the good thing about having six sisters before you."

"I think I might have like, a week's grace period, but I really would like to extend that. And I think I have an idea of how to spin it."

"Yeah? What's your idea?"

"Well, one of the things my friends back home and I want to do, is promote more communication and understanding between Faery and the Human World. So I might be able to get my friends to agree, and run interference for me, if I say I need to educate myself more about said human world."
