Sookie had had better, and less upsetting days. That afternoon, her brother had actually finally returned a phone call -- not to really check on his baby sister, though he did ask after her, but to tell her that he couldn't come to visit that weekend.

But that wasn't enough. Scarcely ten minutes after getting off the phone with Jason, just as the sun was going down, her phone buzzed with a text.

pam & i coming to visit. arrange accommodations. sleeping in the ground is hell on hair.

Because that was exactly what she needed. Eric and Pam, in Fandom. All weekend. Terrorizing her friends and teachers and people who could conceivably be either of those things, but now wouldn't, because some stupid vampires had ruined it.

Wonderful.

So Sookie was in the common room, whisking her second batch of banana pudding. She'd already poured the first batch over vanilla wafers, and admittedly, maybe she was whisking a little harder than necessary. She had some aggression to work out. But at least there was pudding coming out of it.

"Vampire?" Bod repeated, raising an eyebrow at that. His reaction wasn't fright or disgust but interest. He knew a vampire himself so hearing that other people knew the same species always got his attention. "Do you not know them very well?"

"Nope. I know 'em all too well," she said, shaking her head. "They're going to be a nightmare. They're manipulative, rude, and just...not very nice people. So. Stressy weekend, I think."

"I'm sorry to hear that," said Bod sincerely. "This will be my first Parent's Weekend so forgive the uninformed questions but perhaps there are things the school will provide that they can do and not bother you?"

"Like talk to people I know without my supervision? No, thank you," she said, looking mildly panicked at that prospect. "So, hey, if a tall blond man or a blonde lady wearing too much makeup ask you anything about me this weekend, you lie and say you don't know me, 'kay?"

"Of course," he promised, nodding. "I don't know how much I'll be around but I'll definitely do that. Without any guests myself coming, I think I'll feel rather out of place, wandering around. Kate wants me to meet a friend of hers but that's it."

"Poor you," Sookie said with a little smile. "Can you take a trip home sometime, to make up for not seein' anyone this weekend, maybe?"

"Unfortunately that doesn't work either," said Bod, shaking his head. "I can't see the ghosts anymore. Even if I go back, I've lost that ability. I know they're there but I won't be able to see them until I pass on."

"...not even if you took someone who can see ghosts on their own?" she wondered. "Not that I can, but maybe like, Tara or someone could!"

Bod opened his mouth but then shut it since he found he didn't really know the answer.

"I'm...not sure about that," he admitted with a thoughtful look. "Perhaps? I've never tried it. When I left, my guardian told me that the graveyard wasn't my home anymore, it was just a place so I wonder if it would work."

"I mean, if you wanted, that's an idea," she offered. "You wouldn't get in trouble for tryin', would you?"

"I've never tried and Silas didn't make any rules against it so I don't see how I could get in trouble."

It was safe to say he was really wondering if that could work.

"It'd be nice to see my friends again without dying."

"I think I'd rather you didn't die, yeah," she said lightly.

"You're not the only one," he said and laughed. "Kate's told me that before in not so many words. I don't have any intention of dying. I haven't even really come all that close."

Silent Hill was about as close as he'd come and that was an anomaly.

"Do ghosts look the way they did when they died?" she wondered. "Or like, can you look years and years younger, based on what you want to look like?"

"They looked like they did when they died, I think," Bod told her after a moment of thought. "I mean, if they were grievously wounded, you're not going to see the wound but if they passed when they were young, they looked young. If they passed when they were older, they kept that look in the afterlife."

"I was just thinking that with any luck, you'll be a whole bunch older when you see 'em again, if it's after you die," Sookie said. "That's so interesting."

"Hopefully they'll recognize me," said Bod, chuckling. "While I'll have aged, they won't. Most of them really know me as a small, curly haired child who wore a gray shift everywhere."

"Awwwww. I bet you were an adorable little kid," she decided. "Your fashion taste seems to've changed."

"Yes, well, I think I'd be looked at a little strange if I wandered around in something akin to a nightgown the entire day," Bod said, snickering. "And hopefully, when I do pass, I'll end up in that graveyard. I don't know if I'll have a choice or not."

"Put it in your will!" she suggested. "And hey, I bet you could work a nightgown."

She paused, and added, "I don't mean that in a way that would make either of the residents of 324 mad. Just that nightgowns are perfectly acceptable."

"I think Kate would laugh at me if I started wearing a nightgown," Bod said, shaking his head. "She enjoys laughing at me. It's never mean spirited or anything like that but she does enjoy my cluelessness."

"I think that's a girl thing," she confided. "I laugh at Bobby's cluelessness alllll the time."

"Is he clueless often?" Bod asked curiously. "Kate would tell you I'm clueless at least once a day. It's my own fault really, growing up how I did."

"Constantly, but he doesn't have the benefit of having grown up in a graveyard," she said, shaking her head. "Here's another secret: we -- by which I mean women -- tend to find the cluelessness cute."

"Yes, she's told me that too," he said and ducked his head. "I tend to blush a lot and that's just...a huge attraction for Kate. I don't know why. I find it rather irritating."
