Sookie had had better, and less upsetting days. That afternoon, her brother had actually finally returned a phone call -- not to really check on his baby sister, though he did ask after her, but to tell her that he couldn't come to visit that weekend.

But that wasn't enough. Scarcely ten minutes after getting off the phone with Jason, just as the sun was going down, her phone buzzed with a text.

pam & i coming to visit. arrange accommodations. sleeping in the ground is hell on hair.

Because that was exactly what she needed. Eric and Pam, in Fandom. All weekend. Terrorizing her friends and teachers and people who could conceivably be either of those things, but now wouldn't, because some stupid vampires had ruined it.

Wonderful.

So Sookie was in the common room, whisking her second batch of banana pudding. She'd already poured the first batch over vanilla wafers, and admittedly, maybe she was whisking a little harder than necessary. She had some aggression to work out. But at least there was pudding coming out of it.

Bod blushed a bit and laughed. "Basically, a personal ad is placed when a guy or a girl is looking for companionship. It's like advertising yourself. We were going to do that for fun."

"Oh!" Karla said, laughing a little bit. "That would have been kind of funny, I think. Did you guys ever write them up? I'd love to see what they said."

"We never got the chance, no," Bod said and laughed. "It was probably for the best as neither of us were quite sure about what to say or how to say it."

"I still think it sounds like a fun idea," Karla decided. "Even if it's no longer necessary. But where would you have posted them? Around town on fliers?"

"In the dorms, yes," Bod said and blushed again while he laughed. "We're both a little different so we were going to accentuate that in a good way and hope for the best. Apparently, we didn't even really need to do that."

"I must say, I'm rather pleased you didn't," Karla confided. "I'm not sure how I would have fared with more competition and I might have resorted to something completely undignified."

Or, more likely, completely missed her opportunity, oblivious as she'd been to Warren's crush for so long.

"Kate said something similar," Bod told her, nodding. "That she would have been jealous, at least. I don't know if I'm supposed to tell you that so we should keep it between us. I'm glad we didn't either, for what it's worth. It's worked out well for us both."

"I don't really know Kate, so you don't have to worry about it getting back to her from me," Karla promised. "Though I think I heard something about her being in a video?"

Karla had not yet ventured to the uncharted territories of the Youtube.

"But, as you said, I'm happier this way, too."

"Oh, uh, yes, she's in a video," Bod said, blinking at how quick that had gotten around. "I don't really understand it but she seems pretty proud of it. She sings and I think she's dancing. Or posturing. It's hard to tell."

"I haven't seen it, but singing and dancing sound fun," Karla said. "Is she a musician?"

Jono had regaled Karla with tales of days of yore, when MTV played music videos from time to time. All Karla had really gotten from the conversation was that musicians in this world made videos of their songs.

"She might be now," he said thoughtfully. "I actually don't really know. This is the first video of hers I've seen like this. She's talented. I'm just not used to music videos like that. It was...strange."

"I'll have to look it up," Karla decided. "It sounds interesting."

And while Karla and Kate weren't friends, they were friends with the same people, which meant there was a bizarre kind of loyalty involved with seeing it now.

"I've never actually seen a music video, so I don't have a point of reference to decide whether it's weird or not when I watch it," Karla said. "But if that has to change, my first one really ought to be the video of someone I know."

"I'm sure she'd be honored to be your first ever musical video exposure," said Bod, nodding. "She's proud of it and it's definitely something I couldn't do so I'm proud of her for doing it. I'd rather just sit away in my room and read a book."

"I'll have to see what it entails before I make a decision over which I'd rather do," Karla said, "but I was prepared to sing on stage a few months ago for a play, so it might be comparable? The video will be seen by more people, but the play was live."
